My mom is really into making depression recipes so for Christmas I got her a recipe book from 1938 and I ordered her someone's handwritten recipes that are old.
Problem is some of them are hard to read because of the cursive. We can read the majority but I want to make sure she gets the most from her gift.
Does anyone know of any AI or app or something I can upload images to and they will translate for me?
I added a few examples to kind of show our issue.

The best AI is still wetware. Both the cursive and Handwriting subreddit’s routinely offer help interpreting hard to read cursive, and this is actually pretty well written.
You’d probably be better off and get the job done faster, approaching the problem from the perspective of offering a small payment to read these things than try to implement an AI for it.
I am sure a lot of us could and would help with translating if you’d repost the photo horizontally
I will be happy to use my archaic but sometimes valuable experience reading, writing and deciphering cursive, as will others.
It would be welcome if you upload one card at a time horizontally.
But. Seriously. Don’t replace helpful, friendly people with AI. Please.
My colleague has been testing this, and you need to train the tool on the person’s handwriting (so you need a rather large corpus) and it’s really dodgy results after that. She’s tested three of the “best” transcription tools for archives with similar disappointing results.
Chat GPT worked wonders for me
Have I become this old? That I can read long forgotten texts. 😭
Looks a lot like my own cursive and I’m in my 30s haha. Would be happy to transcribe a few for you
If we were to use “auto correct” as a preview, I am seeing some interesting fails in the future.
Scan them and upload them to transcription request
[Just post to the Cursive subreddit, they love to decipher writing, and honestly these are really pretty easy to read.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cursive/s/xWHtkYC5lk)
Honestly using AI when you could just post better photos and ask for help is kinda foolish and a waste of time and resources. Don’t forget lots of AI use a fuck ton of electricity and is actively harming the planet. Just ask for help here or on the cursive subreddit someone will be overjoyed to have a fun challenge and you’ll get more accurate results 🙂
In addition to the other concerns already mentioned, I’d also be wary because entering these precious recipes into AI “feeds” the AI these recipes (as well as the handwriting) as data which it will later regurgitate to other AI users.
I can read them all 😂 want me to send you a translation?
I use google translate English to English and it usually works
Co-pilot is also good at it but i find you have to be extremely exact about how you ask sometimes or it only does part
Wait… chat GP whatever to read cursive? Am I the only that’s a little disgusted here? Not trying to be an whole, but …. you can’t read cursive?
Here are the individual cards, made much easier to read. Try posting them to a sub for handwriting, “what is this”, cooking, etc.
(I’ll take a shot at them myself, but if you have more, this is going to need to be a compensated gig. Maybe try taskrabbit?)

Damn I feel old.
If you can’t read it, AI probably can’t read it. And don’t ask AI to read it, because fuck AI.
