I just wrapped my pork shoulder. I emptied the hopper of pellets because I don’t need the smoke at the moment. Is it OK for this thing to run dry?

What do you need no smoke for? Is there a grill setting? What is providing the “fuel”?
If you are still attempting to cook it maybe move it to your oven?
Not sure what is trying to be accomplished here 🙂

What do you mean run dry? Without pellets? In a pellet grill? What would be the fuel for the heat?
stuntdomino10
I would say no. There is only an igniter and wood with the fan that provides the fuel for the wood to burn hotter. With an empty pot it will push your igniter to burn hotter and eventually error out. Or burn out the igniter. I would not suggest this.

Pellets are the fuel source to keep the heat. You can go finish it in the oven though.

Ok got it. Thanks everyone!

No. It will not function without the pellets
Left-Researcher9073
No, the pellets are also your heat source. Don’t let it run empty

Just put it in the oven at that point if you don’t want smoke.
That thing uses pellets to create heat. It has to have pellets for it to make heat.

No way! It has to have the pellets for fuel.

Run dry??? What are you trying to do? Without pellets, there is not heat, without heat, why do you want to keep it in the smoker?
Careless-Resource-72
Yes. The best practice is to simply turn the controller off, leave it plugged in and wait for the smoker to cool off. Then unplug, cover and put it away. In 4 years I’ve never emptied the hopper. I typically smoke 2-3 times a month year round.

Is this a joke?

Would not run without pellets. Not sure where your heat source will come from?

You’re trolling right???
How are you going to bring it up to temp, if you kill the flame?
Delta_Kilo_84
It will just burn out the remaining pellets it has left in the auger and fire pot. You’ll get rid of the smoke after those are burned up but obviously you also stop heating. Im not sure what you’re trying to do here…can’t keep cooking your wrapped meat without pellets. Smoke is just a by product of an oven fueled by pellets.

Just turn the smoker off then. Taking the fuel source out of it is the same as turning it off pretty much

This has to be the most…. “What the…” post I’ve read in this sub. If you wrapped it tightly, it’s not getting any more smoke and is essentially in an oven. Pellets are fuel, so it can’t generate heat without fuel, this cannot finish cooking after the wrap.
Did you read your manual at all?

Blud took the pellets out of a pro series.🤣🤣 This can’t be real
MidnightHummer
Run it dry, open lid, grab magnifying glass, or two! And finish your cook
