If you’re unfamiliar with this, Primanti Brothers is a locally famous and old establishment (now a corporate franchise) in Pittsburgh, originally for truckers way back in the day. Supposedly. Traditionally has a small choice of meats (capicola is my usual and a go to), provolone, slaw, tomato, and fries. Used to be there were no alterations allowed. Now you can mangle them however you want.

This one is outside my usual wheelhouse, and usually when you go outside the known safe boundaries of meats at Primanti’s you’re playing with fire. This was a “steak” and cheese. I wouldn’t call it “steak,” and I wouldn’t get it again, but it wasn’t bad. Best order is Cap and Cheese add egg (make it dippy) and add onion. I had to take a pic since this one came out looking like folks usually hope they’ll look – huge and impressive. Yes, that’s what she said.

Pittsburgher here. My go-to is the pastrami and egg. I also splash the slaw with hot sauce. The cap with egg is a close 2nd.

It looks good. But unfortunately my stomach is not that big. My husband would like it. 👍

    Comes in a tool box.

    I mean Togo box

The bread looks like it could use a light toasting or something.

  6. Sufficient_Sir256

You can’t eat it like a sandwich. Its just slop. Really not that good. Fries, meat and bread isn’t even good. The cole slaw is good however.

  7. drearymoment

They put french fries on the sandwich? Want 😍

Primanti brothers was the biggest disappointment I think I’ve ever had. So hyped up. I tried to like them, but they really are a below average sandwich in every way

If you could do me a favor and post a Peppi’s sandwich, I’d appreciate it. Damn good sandwiches.

  10. starktargaryen75

That’s really disgusting and inedible looking.

If you’re from Beaver or Butler Counties maybe.

They closed are the one they built by me years ago in Indiana. They never got the fries crispy, they were literally always undercooked. So sad because I felt like there was so much potential there.

Wheres the meat? I always wanted to try a sandwich from there.

  14. ScreenPuzzleheaded48

I’ve only had pastrami but that shit was fire. Don’t understand the hate from this sub for such a legendary sandwich

  15. HVAC_instructor

Not a fan. But a lot of people love them.

  16. roycejefferson

It sucks. I go to PGH a few times a year and avoid it

It sucks. I go to PGH a few times a year and avoid it at all costs

I had one of these when I visited Pittsburgh like six or seven years ago. It was OK but I don’t understand all the hype.

  19. Eatswithducks

Born and raised in Pittsburgh 40+ years. Hate primantis. Peppis is so much better.

    Too tall.

I’m sure it’s good, but if it’s too tall, it’s entirely unenjoyable.

There is a ratio thay is crucial to a good sandwich, and sandwiches like this assume excess and maximalism make up for an enjoyable ratio of ingredients….it does not.

I’m sure it’s good, but it’s just too tall, and for me I won’t order things like this, because it just ruins the entire point.

  21. Tesser4ct

Unless you can unhinge your jaw like Shaggy from Scooby Doo, you can’t even eat this as a sandwich. No thanks.

I’ve only had Primantis twice. Once in their restaurant, which was really good. I had the Reuben with fries on the side. Second time was an online order another Reuben with fries on the side. Ended up with a few fries on the sandwich, and they forgot the thousand island dressing. Was dry AF. Kinda don’t want to go back TBH

  23. riprumblejohnson

….im gonna change my Steelers bet to the bengals now

  24. dj_escobar973

Looks dry AF. Does it have any condiment?

  25. Iosthatred

My man that looks like absolute dogshit, I mean the cheese isn’t even melted ffs

  26. SHochman1

Primantis is low grade ingredients, treated poorly with mediocre fries on the sandwich. Regional and popular doesn’t equal good……

  27. Disastrous_Repeat_63

Was not a fan of this place at all. The flavors didn’t mesh together at all, it was such a huge sandwich, with not much flavor. And it was hard as hell to eat

  28. InvestmentBudget7868

Been to primanti once when in the burgh and it was such a let down, pretty much inedible.

  29. That looks awful. Combined with the effort it would take to tackle it, no thank you.

  30. freddie2ndplanet

only a yinzer thinks this looks good

that said. lots of good ways to get a Primanti sammy
