A couple of weeks ago a friend asked if he should pick up this wine for $80, I was shocked to see the vintage and producer and said hell yeah!
This was the oldest Burgundy either of us has had the opportunity to enjoy and this bottle was a real experience. Obviously at full matured and I would say over that a bit it none the less had a crazy amount of acidity that was holding what remained together; decaying leaves, sous bois and dried figs aromatically the palate was similar but underneath the aged notes there was a really faint but none the less still present strawberry.
What truly surprised us about the wine was that over the course of 2-3hours it actually opened up and became more pleasurable. Perhaps that was us acclimating to the wine but this was an awesome experience!

Old de Montille is wonderful. This bottle just reminds me what a shame the new label is.
