The Most Popular Thanksgiving Side Dishes In Every State
A report by Zippia has revealed the most popular Thanksgiving sides in each state, using Google Trends data.

If your guests are not fans of turkey for Thanksgiving, side dishes and desserts are probably the most important part of the holiday.
Two studies ranked the country’s favorite side dish and dessert by state. In California, mashed potatoes ranked No. 1 in one study by Campbell’s, while pumpkin pie topped a list in another study.
Campbell’s has been headquartered in Camden, N.J., since 1869 and features the brands Campbell’s, Goldfish, Pepperidge Farm, and others.
Campbell’s commissioned a survey of 5,000 U.S. adults who celebrate Thanksgiving, according to its website. Reputation Leaders, an independent research organization, surveyed in June 2024.
Mashed potatoes took the top spot in the state over stuffing/dressing. Other states that joined California in loving mashed potatoes were Utah, Wyoming, Iowa, and West Virginia.
All other states ranked stuffing/dressing at No. 1, making it the nation’s favorite.
Last year, mashed potatoes ranked first in the U.S., but this year, stuffing/dressing took over the top spot.

The rest of the nation’s Thanksgiving side dish list featured a mix of well-known staples.

In a separate study, Californians ranked pumpkin pie first over other desserts for Thanksgiving.
Apple pie was second on the list and peach cobbler was third.
The online Canadian casino website www.casino.ca commissioned and collected data that surveyed 3,000 Americans in each state about their favorite Thanksgiving dessert.
Californians agreed with the nation. Pumpkin pie was the No. 1 choice of Thanksgiving dessert in the U.S. Other selections included pecan pie, apple pie and peach cobbler pie.
