Can anyone give a review on these pellets? I’m new to pellet grills, I picked them up because they were 50% off at Walmart. Also give me your favorite pellets to use. I’m currently trying Pit Boss Post Oak pellets but I also have Bear Mountain.

I’ve never seen those before. I know that’s a highly regarded charcoal company. Interested to hear how they work. I typically just snag the 40lb bag of pit boss classic or competition blend for $15. Didn’t notice a difference when I ran a bag of bear mountain, so I stick with what’s cheap. Never have issues smoking year round in Michigan.

Here is all you need to know about pellets. Premium Pellets, real premium pellets will be 100% of the constituent wood. Hickory pellets will be 100% hickory, cherry will be 100% cherry. A premium brand blend will tell you exactly what woods are in the pellet and ideally in what proportion. If it doesn’t and you are paying a premium price you are getting had.

Bear Mountain for example. When you buy a “Hickory” Bag what percentage of those pellets are hickory? I dont know and you dont know and Lignetics (or whoever the parent company is now) wont tell you either. That’s because if I am guessing BM “Hickory” are 50% Alder 50% Hickory. Most pellets made in the PNW are Alder base, Most made in the upper midwest will be oak base. They write “100%” Hardwood to tell you there’s no pine like in heating pellets but that doesnt mean you are getting the product you think you are.

Now do you need premium pellets to get premium results, not necessarily but you should also know what is in what you are buying.

They are good, but I only get em when on sale.

I’ve got a Pit Boss Mahogany PB1230. I’ve used many different pellets. I’ll switch but I always end up coming back to the Jax Pellets. I like the taste. My guests like the taste. So far these are my favorite pellet.

Those are my go to, really good and actually get some smoke flavor. Home Depot usually has the best price on them.

They are ok, I prefer BM Bold.

When I first bought 2 boxes of Jax they both contained metal shrapnel chunks and the company was only willing to send me 1 replacement box so I will never purchase from them again.

  7. Love them. Low to no ash with a clean burn. I always grab some when I’m up at Buccess in Pigeon Forge 😜

I am new to pellet grills and always used a Weber Kettle or Smokey Mountain to smoke before. The first pellets I bought were Jealous Devil Jax. Thought they were alright then I tried Knotty Wood pellets and it blew the Jax out of the water. They were so much better. I have not tried any other type of pellet yet so I don’t know how they compare to anything other than Knotty Wood pellets. I intend to use the Jax for things I don’t care about as much (quick cooks like steaks and burgers) but for better flavor on longer smokes I’ll go with Knotty Wood.

I’m not on pellets anymore, but jealous devil in my line-up is above B&B and below FOGO. Good and consistent brand from what I’ve experienced. Nice to see they have pellets, I’ll check them out when I get a pellet grill again.

These are decent. They’re all decent. Every brand I’ve ever tried over the past 6 years of using a pellet grill is good enough. My go to is Kirkland 40 pound bag, which is less than $20 you can’t beat it.

I really like them! Now I have to go to Walmart to see if they are marked down here!!!!

They are fine. I scored a deal on 10 boxes of these for 5$ each, they’ve worked fine in my traeger.
