Found this book in a Little Free Library and picked it up since we like to bake in this house! 2 year old helped mix the dough. He was pretty stoked about the result.

My daughter always wants to make the challah from her PJ Library books too! They have some great recipes in them!

That is just the most wholesome thing!

We had a book in the house when I was a child that I so wanted to bake from. But the whole point of the story was that there wasn’t a standardized recipe. The baker in the family, mama, was ill and the kids took over the baking. “Mama uses 6 handfuls of flour, but my hand is smaller than hers so I’ll use 9.” And the bread expanded to fill the bakery but was better tasting than Mama’s. It was called Bembleman’s Bakery, and I highly recommend it if anyone comes across a copy. (My mom still has ours, even though even the grandkids are beyond that reading level.)

I love a Challah, in Polish cuisine (chałka) though it’s normally made sweet and in the Jewish version it’s normally savoury I think.

You might enjoy the book Nanette’s Baguette. There is no baking but if you have a kid who loves bread and rhymes they will love this story 🩷🩷🩷
