Want to point out that there might be a lot more options – this is just what the person wanted to eat. I remember only eating bagels and Sunny D from the snack bar for lunch in jr high. THAT SAID – school lunch in the US needs a ton of improvement (and should be free for kids).

My wife and I went to different public schools in the same city and coincidentally just the other day we were trying to recall some of the lunch details. I thought my school always served brown gravy, and she thinks hers always had cream gravy. Your pictures just reminded me there could have been a third possibility: Yellowish-clear snot gravy. Blech!

Those strawberry things are so good though. When I was in high school they would serve them frozen. I definitely don’t miss the lunches as a whole though I had to pay $3.25 a meal and was still hungry after.

Nothing pisses me off more as a taxpayer than seeing kids served this shit. The superintendent in my local school district makes $295k a year, and upper-level admins make similar 6-figure salaries while kids are served slop worse than prison food
