GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Many people in Grand Junction had an opportunity to enjoy a Christmas dinner, including the unhoused community.
Homeward Bound of the Grand Valley held a Christmas Dinner at the Unhoused Resource Center. They served over 90 people.
Tanya Valencia, known on Facebook as ‘Big T Feeding Those in Need’ helped organize and cook for the event. It took Valencia two days to cook for the event. She said that she loved seeing everyone so happy and seeing them full was her favorite part of the event.

Many volunteers gathered to make the event possible. The event was a large effort of several people coming together.
“Thank you for the community and all the support that we receive because without this community’s help, we would not be able to do this, and I wanted to say thank you. Merry Christmas and God bless you all,” Valencia said.
Cynthia Hartman brought her mother-in-law and two children to volunteer.
“We are really enjoying being here and helping people. That’s the true meaning of Christmas,” Hartman said. She plans on volunteering for more events like this in the future. “I will be here. I love events like this,” she said. “It made my heart so happy.”
This was the first Christmas dinner that Valencia has cooked at the Resource Center. She hosted a Thanksgiving dinner and is planning a Mexican Fiesta for New Years Eve.
