I mean the ‘harsh economic reality’ is people are finally realizing that $15 of ‘service fee’ and ‘delivery fee’ on a $12 pizza is just stupid.
myballzhuert
They fucking charge $8.99 to deliver where I am. I was with them all the way up to $5.99 but now they can fuck right off
vSpooKy
These people are so dense, when you charge me $6 delivery fee that doesnt go towards the driver and your pizza delivery takes a hour plus yeah im grabbing my pizza from the store.
thewildbeej
There’s a fucking dominos pizza within spitting distance of most people’s home. I’m not paying you 3 gallons of gas to travel 8 mile round trip.
inferni_advocatvs
The harsh economic reality: We are tired of subsidizing the 1%.
lloydeph6
I know this topic on dominos but I was at my parents house for Christmas vacation with no car, they were gone for the day and I was hungry for a bbq chicken pizza. After tax and delivery fee and my $5 tip total was $27!
And that was with a stupid promo code
Danobing
Because there’s one 4 minutes from me. Why would I pay to have someone drive 8 minutes when I can do that. Last time I had delivery for a sitter it was 29 dollars for a medium pizza. Or I can spend 16 and pick up 2 medium pizzas and a 6 pack for 12 so 30 total.
SAVertigo
Let’s see, maybe, just maybe, if there wasn’t that silly “delivery fee” that doesn’t go to the driver. What does it go to exactly? The company. Why would I pay $10 for you to deliver shitty pizza to my house when I can go pick your shitty pizza up?
Tug_Stanboat
I was expecting this to be about picking their pizza over other pizza places rather than pickup vs delivery. I had a couple friends work for pizza places that delivered and secured me some “otherwise disposed of” thermal bags and it’s been pickup for me ever since.
FattyPepperonicci69
I mean I never used a delivery service for food? I’ve used services or called but I always pick it up myself. I hate waiting for a driver while I’m doing stuff.

I got into an argument about this “news” before, can’t remember if it was in this sub or not, but basically this is a self-serving piece of news for Domino’s to share because they specifically have run multiple ad campaigns over the last three years begging you to pick up your own pizzas for a discount over delivery. There were always deals on carryout orders, but Domino’s has actively been running ad campaigns to tell you to pick up pizzas for less money than delivery.
They have struggled to keep drivers since COVID because it’s a shit industry and Domino’s is all in on the tech sector part of delivery and wants non-human deliveries to take off because they’re invested in it.
No shit people are picking up their pizzas more, Domino’s literally raised their delivery rates and paid millions of dollars to tell their customers that they should pick up their pizzas. They present this news as if it’s a binary choice customers are making and not Domino’s actively putting their thumb on the scale and going “wow, look at that.”
Slug701
I love a quality pie but most of the time would rather rather have a couple average ones and an order of wings for the same price
woodiinymph
I don’t understand how big businesses aren’t aggressively slashing prices right now.
GET MONEY IN THE MACHINE, GREASE THOSE WHEELS!
joshuahtree
Domino’s has literally been paying people to pick up and running ads encouraging it… are they surprised it worked?
guiltycitizen
They need to stop pulling pud on their robots that deliver and get that shit done already. You don’t have to tip a robot.
Im being facetious, of course. I don’t trust robots
JIMMYJAWN
I only order dominoes as a last resort if I’m intoxicated and can’t drive. Part of growing up is learning that grabbing food before you get inebriated is the smart move.
RoyalClient6610
It’s to skip the delivery fee and tip.
MasterpieceRare3608
i had a “free” pizza delivered to me, and it still cost me $10 before tip.

CORPORATE. GREED.

Economic truth: We like our pizzas to arrive without the toppings on just one side
meusnomenestiesus
$6 delivery fee in my neighborhood and if you want everything to show up you gotta go and check it yourself
TJNel
Mid 2000s all pizza shops added delivery fees when gas was $5 a gallon because the delivery companies were adding fuel surcharges. The price of gas went back down but amazingly the delivery fee never went away.
I can count on one hand how many times in the last 5 years that I had a pizza delivered. I used to always do delivery but I’m not paying $10+ for delivery.
AlmightyHamSandwich
My Domino’s is 1 minute from my house. I pick it up because I’m not fucking lazy.
Speedly
This is skewed. Domino’s routinely runs specials that are pickup-only, and are much cheaper than delivery.
This is a form of selection bias, and nothing more.
Edit: “routinely” is not spelled with the number 8. Fixed my fat-finger mistake.
KarmaDeliveryMan
Yea I’m just not okay paying a $4.99 delivery fee, $2.99 service fee, then tipping the driver $5. 50% of my bill is fees.
Angry_Robot
Harsh economic reality of Door Dash and Uber Eats being garbage.
RedditPosterOver9000
Carryout? $10
Delivery? $25
I’m just surprised it took this long with how everyone is complaining about their finances and the economy.
Food delivery is a luxury service. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it.
chronocapybara
Most because paying the delivery fee and a tip basically doubles the price of the bill. No thanks.
mideon2000
I can order online on my way home from work, scoop up the pizza and be home. Their apps and online ordering makes things a breeze
Primary-Golf779
They should mention dominoes has a deal on pick ups and has been promoting it
Any-Scallion-348
Thanks Russia!
NocturnoOcculto
I ordered papa John’s yesterday and at checkout saw the $5 delivery fee. I’m going to start picking up my pizzas from now on. The carry out deals are better anyway. It’s almost like they want to eliminate delivery drivers.
planetpuddingbrains
If I’m too lazy to drive down the street to pick up a pizza that’s been cooked for me, then I’m too lazy to eat it.
DarkAndHandsume
Trust me, I realized how much more fresher my pizza was when I ordered it and went to pick it up myself as opposed to having a driver going around for 30 minutes delivering other pizzas in addition to my own, and mine is cold eventually when it arrives. Then Domino’s decides to send you one of those sad we are sorry for disappointing you make up emails.
Ashkir
Probably because somehow my $15 pizza becomes $60 to be delivered. But only $15 to pick up.
Their delivery fee is about $10 where I am. Plus another service fee. Driver tip. One restaurant has gas fee as well. And because you’re doing “delivery” your pizza doesn’t qualify for that “coupon deal” and is now $26.99.
fumphdik
I ordered dominos three times this year because my regular place.. doesn’t matter. The first time it was reasonable(over phone). Second time I used internet, it charged me like ten bucks for delivery fee that the phone didn’t. Third time I picked it up because I wanted marinara and had no idea how to order it when talking with their robot. And it turns out, it saved me like half of the cost…. Like why is there a delivery fee of 8 dollars on the internet, 6 on the phone, and shiiit.
GoneKrogering
Noone wants to pay to have their crappy pizza delivered cold. Imagine that!
StellarJayZ
I delivered for a bit while I was in school. Made really good money, always tipped out BoH because drivers made a lot more and they did all the work, but I was shocked that people would pay as much as they did for a pizza. It was a well off delivery area and these are not cheap by any means, so that’s probably why, but I absolutely understand why people wouldn’t pay those fees, regardless of how well you’re doing that’s just ridiculous.
Ancient-Chinglish
maybe if dominos didn’t charge a $5 delivery fee…
Rj_eightonesix
I always pick up my food. Cuz if my ass wants something I have to get off my ass and get it.
I feel like I appreciate it more if I go get it
magicwaffl3
Last time I ordered pizza it was damn near 40 dollars after delivery and tip. It’s fucking insane 😂
Critical-General-659
If I’m picking up food, it’s not gonna be dominos.
Doc_Dragoon
I shit you not I can see the dominos from my front porch and it takes on average two and a half fucking hours to get a pizza delivered and it’s cold and you have to pay all the bullshit and tip the driver. Why the hell would I wait 2 hours for cold pizza I paid twice the price for. I’m just going to go get it myself
RangerMatt4
On top of dominos having special carry out deals 🤣
Kerplunk2222
I started picking up my own pizza. It’s literally 5 minutes away, and I don’t have to tip as much or pay a delivery fee.
KordachThomas
I NEVER use delivery and judge those who do as low intelligence people (lol just being a bit humorous here), seriously fast food is already overpriced for what it actually is, now paying almost double that to have it delivered to your door is ridiculous. I have food in the fridge, if I eat out I eat out.
OneTrueMachineGod
A delivery fee that doesn’t pay the driver plus guilt based tipping are subsidizing greedy loser CEOs just begging for mushroom kingdom justice.
