An interesting subject I was just discussing with my father a few days ago. I actually think (and most experts would agree) that it is potentially an evolutionary advantage for the capsicum plants.
Some seeds do get destroyed by mammals molars that break and kill the seed, yes, but humans love for these plants are the sole reason there are so many hybrids and cultivars present today.
Without human intervention (technically GMO) the plant wouldn’t be where it is today. We’ve selectively bred these plants for thousands of years and have grown alongside them. Their alkaloids provided amazing anti-cancerous and anti-bacterial properties that help us as well. It’s pure symbiosis.

And now they went from being native to Central and South America, to being cultivated all over the world.

Was the trolling of humans (what about hominids before us?) with spicy peppers always a long play? 😳 Deterring so many mammals from touching your seeds versus promoting a spicy breeding contest and agitating a bunch of spice-chasing nerds on the internet? 🤔bro you controls who at this point 🤷
