This is a quick and easy tomato sauce that is very versatile! You can serve this over pasta with any kind of protein of your choice. I’ve served it with sauteed shrimp, chicken and meatballs. If you are a vegetarian, you can simply serve it over any pasta of your choice.

Marinara Sauce with Fresh Basil

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
4 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
1 28 oz. can of whole roma tomatoes in juice (I prefer Cento)
1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Directions:
Heat oil and add sliced garlic in a small skillet over medium low heat, just enough so the garlic is soft and fragrant. This takes about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to sit for about 30 minutes.

Next, pour tomatoes and their juices into a pot. Squeeze or cut up tomatoes until they are coursly crushed. Stir in the garlic and oil, fresh basil and seasonings. Let simmer on a low heat for about 30 minutes. Serve warm with any protein or alone over pasta or by itself.

I served this with meatballs, please see the recipe below.

You can double the recipe if you are feeding more than 4 people.
