My answer to any question about meat being “ok to eat” is no.

If it’s questionable I wouldn’t. A couple of dollars isn’t worth getting food poisoning over.

If you have to ask internet strangers if something is safe to eat, just throw it out.

I eat fish all the time, including salmon. I would not eat that fish. Looks nasty.

Looks similar to the salmon that I got from them. Absolutely awful quality. I took one bite and threw it out

The nose knows – how does it smell? It does look off…

can someone tell me what is driving your conclusions? Is it the breaking structure of the salmon? the color? the discoloration on the edges? the fact that he is asking? that weird bit at the fold?

nobody ever explains why, just gives the conclusion

Why even consider eating some that looks bad?

Put some hot sauce on it….

    At least try it

Personally, if you smell a piece of meat and the first thing that pops into your mind is “is this rotten?”, there is a good chance your nose is telling you something isn’t right. I’d trust your nose.

Is it firm or super squishy in the middle where the mushed looking area is? That is the area that makes me suspicious.

Sure it’s ok to eat after it’s cooked thou lol

Looks freezer burnt, fish doesn’t last as long as beef or pork, 6 months is about as long as salmon can go without thick vacuum sealed bags and then you get about a year. I live in Alaska and many people will smoke the fish from last year before the new season starts to stretch out how long you can store the fish. Other folks will feed it to the dogs after a year as well, but of course the other side you got people cracking out 2 year old fishcicles out for dinner.

  14. Genuinely curious, what’s those little silver dots on the right side? Am I tripping or is that never really on salmon?

Smell it. If it smells of anything it’s probably not good in my experience.

  16. Looks like farm salmon they inject dye to make it orange.

I don’t think so, but I think you should anyways, as an experiment to see if I’m right

Atlantic salmon is farm raised. It’s not wild.

Looks like it’s been time/temp abused.

It may have thawed and been refrozen.

years ago i worked in the kitchen at a tex mex place that had salmon as an add on protein option to the salads. they were vacuum sealed frozen individual filets, very cheap, and looked exactly like this after thawing and cutting open a package. pretty fishy taste and oily for salmon, but no one ever sent it back or complained. i’d eat a piece on a salad every so often and never had any issues

Looks to be frozen/thawed/refrozen and created freezer burn. Or thawed in to high temp creating the pits in it. Freezer burn isn’t unsafe to eat just puts an off taste to it. If it smelled overly fishy I discard it. Cut the brown out if otherwise. Sure it’s safe.
