I don’t know if this is the correct sub to post it on, but I’m currently in Budapest and fell in love with Eros Pista paste. I unfortunately cannot find any jar less than 200g, so I cannot bring it back with me (carry-on only) but I found this. Can I mix this with something to make it resemble the paste?

I’ve never had the paste, but I would imagine if this is ground, you could make a New Mexico style chile sauce with it and maybe reduce to the thickness you want.

Unfortunately this is just finely ground dried hot paprika. The original paste is made of coarsely ground raw peppers, salt, a tiny bit of xanthan gum to thicken it and citric acid.
I saw your other post in r/budapest. If you want a smaller portion, the producer also sells 70g product. [https://www.univer.hu/hu/termekek/magyar-izek/eros-pista](https://www.univer.hu/hu/termekek/magyar-izek/eros-pista)
Bring the paprika and use it for cooking.
You can buy Eros Pista paste on Amazon for $10.
When I had the pista it had this funky flavour I couldn’t identify and then when I got into growing peppers and making hot sauce I found out that fermented mash tastes pretty much exactly the same. I used tabasco peppers so mine came out a bit spicier but the flavour was spot on. I think any red fragrant but not tropical chilli would work.
I’m not sure if the real thing is fermented and you could probably get pretty close by using citric acid and/or vinegar instead.
If you’re looking for an authentic paprika paste and can’t find Erős Pista i would suggest buying Piros Arany. Sadly this is ground paprika.
Get Haragos Pista, its super spicy!
I’d just buy the ready made paste tbh.
