In India they are called Rumali Roti. Never seen one this big though.

  3. ShockedChicken

Looks like rumaali roti, made similar to chapaati but thinner and larger.  2 meters seems a bit extra

How could it not be bread? Flour plus water plus heat equals bread in my mind. There’s chemically leavened breads, an endless variety of yeast breads and unleavened breads. I’m in awe at the skill demonstrated.

Looks like it would be nice to lie under on a cold night

Never complaining about my stretching and folding again

Is it really bread? No, it’s a hamster /s

It’s the type of bread that, when you eat a little piece, gives you diharreah for the next 3 weeks.

    That’s some insane stretching skill

There was an international food store where I used to live that sold fresh giant flatbread about that size, but rectangle and not round. I think it was called lavash? You could watch them make it in store it was so cool and I always got some

Armenian lavash! Even made commericially, they are *massive*

  12. Nonameswhere

I wonder what they eat it with? What food/dish/ curry necessitates such a huge bread.

My friend from Armenia brings this kind of thing from LA when he visits. I believe from a Georgian bakery.

Even if the pipe he is cooking on is lead, I’m buying and eating that whole stack

So that’s how they made my daughters tortilla blanket. Learn something new everyday.

this is called rumali roti, it’s definitely my favorite – so light and airy while also being satisfyingly chewy

  18. boringxadult

I just want to know what makes you think it isn’t bread?

  19. Kachoww23

This is them making those tortilla blankets I’ve seen on Amazon huh

  20. smokeyblackcook

Baker: let’s put the roti over on that rug outside.

Other baker: shouldn’t we put them on a table or something?

Baker: we can’t afford one so just carpet for now

  21. Boring_Internet_968

So that’s how they make the tortilla blankets!!!!

  22. theliterarystitcher

We have something similar sold in Middle Eastern grocery stores, called markouk. Just a giant, super thin wrap situation, it’s great with stews and soups!

  23. Sweet-N-Tasty

Is this how tortilla blankets are made?

  24. TheLastSuppit

I, too, like to wrap my roti dough around my head while stretching it out before baking

It’s just a giant roti, more than likely for a community/event meal. My grandmother would make a couple diff curries, rice, and a some giant rotis (not THIS big) for family meals. Just rip a piece off and use it to pick up your curry of choice.

This reminds me of roomali roti. Roomal means handkerchief which is where the roti derives its name from.

I want to wrap myself up in this and eat my way out
