For those who haven't heard of the 9/9/9 Challenge, it's pretty straightforward.

Drink 9 beers, eat 9 hot dogs, in a 9 inning baseball game.

I know it's a terrible idea, but I want to do it. As a vegetarian, the hot dogs aren't an option. What would be a suitable alternative for a hot dog for the purposes of this challenge?

Here's the dining guide for my local stadium:

Oh man, my stadium has the best vegetarian hot dogs. There’s no way I could do 9 beers but 9 hot dogs is definitely possible…

And either churro dog or soft pretzel from the options at your stadium

Dare I ask what a churro dog is? I’m gonna assume it is not a cinnamon tofu pup.

I think that the spirit of the challenge is that you have a carb/protein dish. To me, the closest alternative is therefore the hummus and pita, or maybe pretzel and cheese. Unfortunately that sounds less interesting than a churro dog.

Bring your own Impossible sausages, buns, and toppings? Impossible’s Italian Sausage things are great, although they’re a bit larger than a hot dog and I have no idea what eating nine of them would do to your innards.

And they’re expensive, too, enough that I save them for occasional treats.

I guess a churro dog would be the closest. I’d go for the hummus and pita though

Citifield has Beyond Sausages. Each order actually has 2 sausages in the bun. I guess you only have to eat 4.5 orders? Dibs on that other .5!

Buy veggie dogs or corn dogs and fix them up. Then turn the game on the tv and hold your dog up in front of tv and take a pic! Games with dogs lol.

How about nachos? Some places do them fancy but most places just give you one of those little cardboard boats filled with chips and topped with nacho cheese sauce and jalapenos.

Woof. Slim pickings. It’s annoying that their cheese/black bean enchiladas are not considered vegetarian. I was going to say a cheese taquito but they don’t even have those either.

From what’s on the menu, I see two choices. I don’t like the churro dog as a replacement because it’s probably not bulky enough for the challenge and is just a lot of sugar. Instead, I’d maybe go with the pretzel with cheese, because it’s the most bulky item that sort of mimics a hot dog. I don’t love it though because carb heavy bread items will really slow you down in a way guzzling a protein down won’t.

So my other choice would be hummus with pita, except by itself, it’s probably not substantial enough chew-wise to compare to a hot dog in an eating challenge. Because of that, I’d probably add the fried pickles, assuming they’re fried spears, to the middle of the pita with hummus to kinda mimic a pickle wrap. More spendy and it’s a bit DIY, but the combo will have the carb factor like a hot dog bun, the chew factor from the pickle like a hotdog, the fat from the fried pickle breading like a hot dog, and the protein from the hummus like a hot dog. If the fried pickles are pickle coins, you could still do the same thing with them, but it wouldn’t be as visually dramatic, or you could see if one of the bars/burger/sandwich places has pickle spears they give on the side you could buy a la carte.

I bet my stadium has vegetarian hot dogs, but I also bet 9 beers and 9 veggie hotdogs would set me back at least $300

There are vegetarian hot dogs. I’d see if your stadium will allow outside food, cause those options are pretty lackluster.

Maybe 9 enchiladas or soft pretzels instead? Good luck!!

Comerica has average/sub average veggie dogs if you’re in Detroit
