I was so excited to drink this one. After 4 hours of decanting, liquid rubber tires couldn’t be ignored. Went down a drain. Anyone experienced this wine before? And yes, we had hot dogs that night. Classy stuff.

Never had their Grenache, but I’ve had several No Girls Syrah and Tempranillo and never had anything approaching rubber tire on the flavor profile

Yes. I’ve experienced the same note with a lot of other Cayuse bottles. Volatile sulphur compounds are the culprit, I think. Hopefully someone can chime in but, yeah, similar experiences here.

Was the tire smell there when you opened it and lasted 4 hours, or did you just decant and try it 4 hours later? That’s not a wine I would have had decanted at all.

  4. Yeah we have a few bottles of this stuff. I didn’t think it was bad but my wife won’t drink it. Oh well, another excuse for opening another one our syrahs.

Next time keep it and cork it for a while in the fridge. As for Cayuse, I would say they are all frogs but kiss enough and maybe you’ll find your prince…3 days later

Just took 8 boxes to the wine auction house, along with 8 boxes of horsepower.

It’s not the wine I remember.

  8. What a shame! I had the exact same bottle about a year ago and it was delightful. That said, I had a similar experience to yours with the God Only Knows Grenache a little while back.

  9. I love Grenache and Syrah and I’ve sold this wine for many years. There’s something that has been drastically wrong with cayuse for years now and I will die on that hill. I collect a number of Washington Wines and collect saxuum/ledge/booker. Hedges out of Washington is a favorite. Some of their wine are so bitter they taste like biting an aspirin. I’ve never had a high-end wine returned by customer so often.

Yep. We have given up on Cayuse. What use to be a little “funk” that blows off seems to be a perpetual thing now. Gave up our allotment

Never had the wine. But there is nothing wrong with some hotdogs and curly fries!!!
