I’ve decorated a few cakes, but nothing to this level (see inspo pics). I feel like I can do it, I’m just wondering what kind of piping tips to use to achieve this look and what are some of your favorite heart-shaped cake molds?

What food gel color would you recommend to use? She wants it to be carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

Any other tips/tricks/suggestions are welcome!

Thank you in advance!

I don’t know the names piping tips I use without looking at them. And normally I would have no problem looking. Only I’m evacuated from the fires currently and well they did not go with me. I’m sure plenty of other people will help you there.

You can go on YouTube and looking up decorating vintage cakes.

I do have one tip though. For the part that droops down like fabric hanging. I personally sucking at piping those and making them anywhere near even height. I use a cookie / biscuit cutter and very lightly press into the side. This gives an outline to follow. I do this soften with shapes as well.

Cream cheese frosting doesn’t pipe well. There are a few recipes that say they do but if you are inexperienced it’s very difficult.
I recommend using cream cheese as a filling and regular buttercream for the outside.

Americolor Electric Green is a great gel color.

Off the top of my head, piping tip numbers 2D or 2M, 28 or 30, 4, and I can’t remember the ruffle tip

Like the other comments, I recommend going for just the regular buttercream frosting for the final coat and piping details and crumbcoat and fill the cake with cream cheese frosting.

Chefmaster Avocado Green works well, but to make it brighter, add more yellow. Or if you want to darken it a bit, then add a smidge of brown.

I’m pretty familiar with all of the piping tips used for both inspo pics so let me list them all for you (my style usually leans towards vintage and lambeth designs):

    First photo:

Top and bottom shell piping: Ateco 4B or 6B

String piping: Ateco 4/5 (Can also be Wilton 4/5)

    Rosettes: Ateco 16

    Ruffles: Ateco 104

Second inspo photo used the same piping tips I mentioned:

Top and bottom shell piping: Ateco 4B/6B

String piping: Can be Ateco 4/5

    Inner bubble piping: Ateco 6/8

    Ruffles: Ateco 104

Hope this helps and goodluck! 🫶🏼🤍
