Hi there! I'm new to the group and I wanted to see if therenis any significance to my vintage yellow Kettle Weber. I think it's a 1973 (BK-720) "The Gourmet", based off this 1973 Weber catalog. Any info about the grill or opinions on its current condition welcome!

Maybe if it wasn’t beat to death and rusted. As it sits? Just cook on it.

It’s not a 26er. It’s a 22. It is obviously not in great condition, but most in this age range will be in this condition. The wood handle is in rough shape. The rust on the leg sockets is normal, but you have some crazing in the porcelain on the bowl, which makes it less desirable. The condition of the interior straps would be an area I’d inspect, too.

Overall, it has potential with some restoration steps. But, it won’t get you top dollar. Nonetheless, the Gourmet is a popular model with kettleheads.

Fwiw, the yellow kettles are really rare, it’s impossible to find them without rusted lips and leg sockets unless you ride your unicorn to get it. What’s kool is they’ll turn an orange color when they heat up. Dont bank your coals against the inside walls it’ll burn off the finish. Nice find by the way

I like that it’s vintage, but I would not pay more than 50 bucks for it, that’s just me. I was born in ‘73 so it is sweet that grill is still in action is cool. If it’s something you grabbed and are keeping, I wish you many more years of use out of that classic. If someone offers stupid money for it, good bye and good luck.

Yes that is a great specimen! Not a 26er though

Appreciate the comments and correction on its size. My friend and neighbor couldn’t fit it in their truck when they moved out of state, so it was left with me. Didn’t think too much of it until I had read there some of these old ones were desirable, but this one is pretty beat up. The inside is in pretty good shape.

    That thing is a beauty!

Let me put it this way, I have never seen a yellow one like that is real life before. That color is rare. If that grill were black it’s worth $50. Yours probably $150 to $200. Depending on your area.

the gang on the weber kettle club would be all over that. great find.

  11. Are people really “collecting” these? It’d be maybe one thing if it was brand new/never been used, and I’m sure several people in this sub have 2 or 3 grills in their backyard that they use, but who *collects* rusty old charcoal grills?

Not sure about collecting but I would kill for a yellow Weber! If your in socal let me know
