Who's your favorite from this gen? I defiantly adore Tinkaton! AD: Thank you to Factor for sponsoring this video! Head to https://factor.yt.link/jd1Sby2 to get 50% off and free shipping on your first Factor box and 20% off your next month of orders with code LOCKSTINFIFTY.
15:12 Again, Dachsund is pronounced "Dok-sund," not "Dash-hound;" that doesn't make any sense.
Blood moon Ursaluna :(?
4:52 it went great 👍 really good.
14:51 *however standard laboratory white mice and rats have an extremely inconvenient genetic factor that makes them a pretty bad stand in for humans. They have absurdly elongated telomeres.
8:59 hake is pronounced like cake just so you know, its also very common in the uk for fish and chips!
Palafin could also be based on Pink Boto, A mythical creature from South America, where it's a pink river dolphin that transform into a human to join the festivities, but have to transform back into a dolphin.
33:43 don’t know if it was mentioned but if you take Rabsca, slit it in two (Rab Sca) and swap them, you get Scarab.
Forgot the name of the type of wordplay that is, sorry!
We have Tenerife's carnaval! I get that Quaquaval is oftenly attributed to Brazil tho
Respect, this was insanely entertaining and informational!
Missed Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Unsubscribed
To think that you can't see many of these great animations in game… These Pokemon are so great!
Great watch and listen
El Cid's sword is named Tizón, which if you google it… Yeah that's exactly what the Charcadet line is
I think the reason why Revavroom floats is so that they don't have to make the roadkill version counterpart.
Or a whole line of roadkill forms of different pokemon
To renforce the mongol warrior motif on okidogi, I see it’s fur as having a storm cloud design especially with the bottom two tufts. Which might represent how two mongol invasion attempts were halted by a typhoon.
You pronounce words….most interestingly
7:06
That is not true.
The first Portuguese ship arrived in 1543. The first Dutch ship arrived in 1600, barely half a century later.
Moreover, in 1639, still less than century, the Portuguese were BANNED from trading with Japan at all, as they were spreading their religion, which Japan did not want.
Until all the way in 1854, it was the Dutch, not the Portuguese, who were the only ones allowed to trade with Japan.
Ooooh then someday we should definitely get an Alolan Bellibolt. Hawaii had electric lightbulbs and telephones before even the USA’s White House
Because I think you'd like to know: The german pronounciation for the first part in "Dachshund" sounds more like "dux" and less like "dush". Of course still a great video
Ok, this video have many things wrong with the starters, specially with fuecoco's line. You're too American-centered and didn't catch lot's of iberian influence in them.
Fuecoco is based in a Paprika, specially a filled one. In Spanish cuisine it's used to be filled with fish or other ingredients. It's also used to do spicy sauces or as a spice, like in Gallician octopus.
Crocalor is not based in any mariachi, the hat is a "Mona de Pascua", a donut cake made of bread with an egg in the middle that is eaten in Easter Day in mediterranean Spain. That's why it becomes a bird when it evolves.
Finally Skeledirge is algo based on Gaudi's lizard and on many lizardesque beasts that populate folklore and became figures that expel fire in celebrations like correfocs. That's the reason the line is a fire starter and not a water one.
They obviously also used a death theme with them, that's why is ghost type, but is not the main inspiration at all.
I was thinking about the Paradox pokemon recently and my mind instantly though Ultra Beasts. I have not finished the DLC of SV but the idea that the time machine was pulling pokemon from other timelines kind of resembles how Ultra Worm Hole kind of work… Since Ultra Beast are supposed to be from another timeline or universe
You didnt mention kingambit being named after the kings gambit move where you make sacrifice a pawn to get control of the board which matches up with kingambits signature ability
44:28 we know what it looks like . . . Hehe
Ugh. All the past and future paradox pokemon are so redundant and uncreative, the names in particular are flat out lame. It just seems like a cheap cop out to play off people's nostalgia for the older pokemon. Just a life hack by the developers to "add" more pokemon, but completely cheating the thought and orginality department for fresh ideas. The regional variants were plenty already. They need to come up with more unique pokemon or just stop.
I wanted to add about the way that okidogi wears its binding. It wears it as a necklace, which is also a collar. Chained together mochi poison makes it shaped like that, like a chain leash on a pitbull (in media, irl pitties are sweeties). But not only does it look like a chain on dogfighting dog, but also like a six-ring soda holder that wildlife gets caught in. Obviously it doesn’t line up with the references, but it’s the first thing I thought when I saw that design.
I'm Spanish and we had a huge meme with Fidough in my home town (Elche), because one of our patrimonies is a stone bust called the Dame of Elche, who has some particular head ornaments that look like ensaimadas, so when we saw the design for Fidough and how much it resembled the bust, we actually couldn't believe it and to this day I REALLY hope it was intentional
I always thought of Glimmora as Asbestos. Asbestos was once extremely popular because of its utility and blue Asbestos especially was considered to be beautiful but was the most deadly. Glimmora is that striking blue and its poison goes beyond that of what regular poison types are capable of with the toxic debris sending out a hazard that badly poisons targets while corrosion allows steel and poison types to be poisoned. Glimmora's shiny also looks strikingly like blue asbestos
Just got to Dachsbun, and how dare you pronounce Challah that way.
BRASIL MENCIONADO!!!!
The dragon that guarded the golden apples was ladon not the hydra
53:51 Kingambit's name is based on a chess opening "the King's gambit" so if anything it's name is more clever than most from Paldea
Espartha is 1000% Nikki Manaj
Yeah those wires don't "choke" people lol they cut thru their jugular 11:30
Andorra is the perfect place for Spanish people who want to avoid taxes, mostly youtubers.
I'm shocked you didn't mention Meowscarada bears resemblance to the Iberian Lynx, a species endemic to the peninsula.
Ok. You don't get to mention the Boto and say like "He just lives among humans". The creature was said to be the reason for a bunch of "Misterious" pregnancies lol
name: dachs bun
lockstin: DASH bun
Mmm yes lady gaga bird
Seeing this really does make Pokemon better once the context is given
So much of this is a huge stretch.
For greavard, it could also reference church grims. While traditionally black dogs, they are buried before the first person of a cemetery due to the belief that the first to be buried in a location has the eternal duty to protect the area and its spirits
skelidurge has death whistle too
15:54 Challah is actually pronounced like hollah
4:15 hear me out…
51:03 boing
Cucuy is pronounced like this: coo-coo-wee. The second ‘coo’ is said slightly faster than the first. For better reference, look up the UFC fighter Tony Ferguson. His nickname in the octagon is El Cucuy.
Baxcalibur’s signature move (or at least the animation for it, where it slams it’s head into the ground and then propels itself backwards) is likely a reference to a scene from classic Godzilla where it propels itself backwards with its atomic breath.
