blades up. it puts your hand low so it’s easier to reach. if you slip you hit another handle. we use the plastic boxes those are blade inside for protection.

  2. Humble-Cry1663

Tip up for safety and protect the tip if they fall off

  3. It’s a situational thing. Depends on where the strip is mounted.

  4. Silver-Emergency-988

Blade up is the only way, anyone that says otherwise is wrong.

with tip down, you either need to rotate your arm and grab the handle, or you have to readjust the knife in your hand after

imo, tip up and position the magnet at a height that makes the height of the handle perfect for your preference.

also, i have my blades facing right, but im left handed and i feel thats the logical way for a lefty, whereas facing left i feel is more logical for a righty.

for a lefty, i would place the knife with the shortest handle at the far left and position it high on the magnet. then add knives in order of handle length, and also shift their position slightly more down on the magnet with each knife (and the mirror for a righty)

[attempting to minimize chance of knicking the heel of an adjacent blade]

I’d say point up for two reasons. One so it does slip and hit your foot point down and two to prevent it from slipping and damaging the point.

  7. always tip up unless the stand/board they are on is long enough that the whole blade is on the board and thus can’t injure anyone.

on the rack you have i would for sure go tips up.

Alternate directions, so you are sure to stay safe!

I like tip down in my opinion, but I’m wrong and I know that. I just like it 🤷‍♂️

  10. Magstrip’s a waste of money. Just stab them into the wall. 😎👍

  11. NegativeAccount

Tips up, for when they get bumped and fall off

If they’re a hazard facing upwards then the magnet shouldn’t be in that spot in the first place

Caveat: if they’re hanging waist height or below i’d face them down

  12. StonedJesus98

99% percent of the time blade up, I did however once work in a kitchen where they had a magnet rail at hip height (literally the tip of the iceberg of creative health and safety problems in that place) so for that it was handle up

  13. Tip up and anything else is just wrong.

Tip down knife slips, messes up the tip, goes straight into what is down there (floor, foot, priceless artifacts) and just to grab it, you introduce a certain motion, which could add to injury.

Tip up, you just grab it, if it falls, less chance to mess up the tip, have it stab the floor (or artifacts) and it is combat ready

  14. Excellent_Condition

The way I do it is tip up, and all sharp edges facing the same way.

To take it off, rotate it using the spine as the pivot point. That way there is no way for the sharp edge to contact your magnet and mess up the edge.

Having them point the same way lowers the odds that you or someone else accidentally removes it by rotating towards the edge and chips the knife.

  15. Darth_Gravid_

Tip up, blade away from user’s dominant hand, left handed users get right side of block.

  16. myleswstone

Tip up so it doesn’t damage the blade or your foot if it falls.

  17. geekdadchris

Tip up. Hilt to the base of the magnet. Evenly spaced. All edges facing right.

  18. Try both. Which one feels less awkward? The golden rule for all sharp things is if it feels awkward don’t do it.

  19. Livid_Introduction52

Is this just trolling for karma? Both of these pictures are from either a different users post or an ad… What’s going on here?

  20. Square_Ad849

I think it depends on a few logistical variables. Such as approach, height of dispense, room on the magnet common sense flow to retrieve and secure a knife. Whatever works best for each environment.

  21. WoozyTraveller

Tip up 100%. Other way is awkward to grab and risks damage to the tip of the knives

  22. TheProofsinthePastis

I’ll never put my knives on a magnetic strip, so the only correct answer for me is neither.

  23. wigzell78

Whichever way you want, but only one direction.

  24. Colemanton

tip up with the spine to the right. easier for me to roll the knife off to the right so im not grinding the edge against the surface when i take it off

  25. snipsnapsnot

One of my “managers” insists on having having the tips down. I’ve tired telling him and I flipped them up one close and came in the next day to a sit down talking to. Nice guy but I don’t work well with him.

  26. External_Variety

Blade up. You don’t want your knife to fall and lose its tip.

  27. Brilliant_Image8782

Everyone on this sub is having an Opposite Day I guess. Put the knife on the magnet with the handle facing up, resting on the top of the block. It is much harder to knock off the magnet that way.

Also everyone should be carrying their knives with the blades facing down away from people’s faces so safety would prescribe the blade continues to face down when you put it on the magnet as well as when you take it off.

If the handle is facing down, leverage makes it much easier to knock the knife off the magnet and it’s not going to fall perfectly straight down anyways.

  28. Cynical_Doggie

Only top right blade of second picture.

Tip up handle down with blade edge pointing left.

    Assuming you are right handed.

  29. Agitated_Position392

If someone does it tips down they don’t deserve all of their fingers

  30. MightyPitchfork

I would say it depends on the height of the cook and the placement of the magstrip. As a tall person, I prefer them handle up.

  31. Sckillgan

Just ask yourself which one would you rather accidentally back into…

    That should be your answer.

  32. Neither. Neither is correct. They are both just a preference. Choose yours.

  33. branston2010

Tips up, and for the love of god please turn around that kiritsuke gyuto so they are all facing the same direction
