I froze a salmon chowder in a pot for quick reheating, then while it was reheating the bottom part boiled before the top thawed, so pressure built up in the pot until it ejected a 10lb plug of frozen soup upwards with enough momentum to destroy our range hood, and then carry the soupcicle all the way across the kitchen. Thankfully nobody was hurt but I got to spend the rest of the day scrubbing salmon out of every nook and cranny in the kitchen. And thankfully I get to learn from this mistake, when I could have easily been seriously injured or killed.

Unrelated but are the cabinets behind that column to the right of the stove accessible at all? I’m very confused by this design.

Why on earth would you freeze soup in a pot instead of transferring it to a more suitable container?

Why does this look like someone’s kitchen at home? Just add a support pole 🤣

In many kitchens, you freeze soup in a bag and reheat by putting it in hot water (while in bag). I imagine to prevent this situation

You would have been better off leaving a hot tap running into a bath/bain Marie with your frozen soup standing in it till it was melted. That hood is crayyyyyzee!

Appreciate the genuine laugh at your expense. This could 100% have been me. Good luck cleaning.

    Froze it in a pot??

Where the hell do you work?

The fun part will come a few weeks later when you start smelling rancid chowder.

Thats an awesome pic, hopefully all that was damaged was the vent hood.

  10. Consider putting soupcicle on the menu along with the story.

I’m more curious about where you work. It looks like a home kinda kitchen and that sounds really interesting to me

A tip : don’t put hot things in the freezer, otherwise it drops the temperature of the whole room, potentially slightly thawing ever item in there

This is the dumbest shit I’ve ever read and I loved every second of it 😂

  15. Well thats the first time I’ve ever heard of that happening. How high did you have the heat on the stove?

  16. My old coworker did this with isomalt, we were finding pieces of isomalt for years. Have pictures of the aftermath, I should find them

Freezing soup in a pot is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.

Honestly, I’m impressed. I was expecting a pressure cooker but OP surprised me with their ingenious stupidity.

Contractor: Where are the blueprints for the kitchen?
Restaurant owner: Just make it look like the break room at a physical therapy business 35 minutes outside of town
    Contractor: Say less fam

OP, I’d never stop kicking myself if this happened to me but I really appreciate your last sentence where you said you’re thankful it wasn’t worse and that you’ll learn, which you will. You’ll learn from your mistakes and I’ll learn from mine.

That’s an amazing new way to fuck things up. I’d be damn proud of this one.
