I recently tried my first California Cab from Paso Robles. I don't live in the US, so they're pretty unsual here.
When I was speaking to our sommelier he mentioned that the bottle was actually a fairly light european style example of a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Golden state.

That got me wondering – I still want to try one of those really intense California reds that I've read about so much and I just don't know if this was it or not (I am a bit of a wine newbie) and I don't know what to look for in terms of hallmark producers for that style of wine. I don't have all the money in the world and prices here are quite inflated, so I've assembled a list of a few wines that I can afford to buy one of, and I need some help to choose a bottle.

I'm not really looking for the best in terms of quality or for personal favorites but for the one that just screams "California Cab" from the moment you open the bottle, if that's a even thing.

The list:

Buena Vista Cabernet Sauvignon

Francis Ford Coppola Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon

Klinker Brick Cabernet Sauvignon

Buena Vista should work. It’s not going to be that insane fruit bomb from a 100$ napa bottle but it’s close.

I think all 3 are fine examples. I imagine acquiring Cali wines outside of the states presents some issues too, so again, these 3 are fine. I’d suggest getting the Coppola. He’s a Cali legend in so many ways. And the wine should be exactly what you have in mind. Pairs best with sunglasses.
