Gymkhana **, London – December 31, 2024

  1. This was our first meal on our recent trip to London. For better or worse, we were eating out on New Year’s Eve. We did schedule this early since we didn’t really want to be out into the evening. We had cocktails up at the 42 bar beforehand.

There was a special NYE tasting menu which was steeply priced with a 50% premium over their usual tasting menu. In general, we liked the meal, but it didn’t seem 2-star good. Some of the ingredients were certainly evevated (e.g. the lobster and caviar). One of our favorite dishes was the beetroot halwa for dessert.

I haven’t worked on the writeup on my blog yet, but it will be here – [https://epicureanenthusiast.blog/gymkhana/](https://epicureanenthusiast.blog/gymkhana/)

  2. It looks delicious, but agree that it doesn’t look like a typical 2-star type of menu imo. I feel like some of the 1-star Indian tasting menus posted here before look more 2-star than this.

Gymkhana was meh for me. I’ll admit Indian isn’t my top choice food genre. My husband loves it so this was his pick while we were in London. Our service was mediocre. When I asked for suggestions our server laughed and smirked. Yeah yeah, I know, dumb white American asking for the less spicy (heat, not flavor) options. Drinks weren’t memorable either. I’ve had very good higher end Indian food stateside (no stars, in the burbs). I’m not sure I get the stars or the hype.

We were there before it got its second star and really loved it. I remember thinking it really outperformed its star. Looking forward to the write-up since we’ve always wanted to go back next time we’re in London.

Looks so standard. Can’t believe that even has a star

Gymkhana is great. But Gunpowder and Paradise aren’t as fancy and I love them so much more.

  7. Gymkhana is so meh. Once you’ve eaten at Tresind Studio, 2* Indian, these other Indian Michelin star restaurants don’t even come close. I’d put Tresind near the top of any dining experience I’ve ever had. They really elevate flavour, technique, ingredients and bring together the diversity of Indian cuisine in a 15+ course extravaganza.

Really overrated and expensive for what it is in my experience. So many better places to go.

If you’re not keen on paying for ** just go to their sister restaurant, Brigadiers. Looks like several dishes are the same and B’s menu is great in its own right.
