It smells and tastes so good but when I go to flip it's caramelized and sticks 🥲 am I letting it grill on one side too long? Not hot enough? I sprayed with cooking spray but that wasn't enough to keep it from sticking do I need to flip earlier?

I dunno about bananas specifically but if you cut a potato in half and rub the flesh on the grill grate meat won’t stick. The starch from the potato is why. Worth a shot.

  2. Inside peel, grilled plantains are amazing btw (both low heat )

I’ve only ever had good luck in a pan. They get pretty delicate when hot.

I don’t know about banana exactly, but my in laws turned me onto grilled plantain:

They’re good for the grill when the skin starts to turn brown. Place over direct heat until the skin chars and splits. When it’s done we end up with a Smokey-sweet soft plantain that’s served with a knob of butter.

    (Obviously toss the skin)

Stands to reason you could try the same thing with banana.

The answer for this, sliced vegetables, and even fish is a grill basket.

Take a bunch of peeled bananas- smash them together to make one giant banana with parachute paper. Freeze halfway.(1 hour) Lather in beef tallow and roll back and fourth onto a 800° grill until internal temp is 165°.

I’ll let you know after you clean the grill 😉

Rub a bit of mayo on it. Not joking. You wouldn’t know there was mayo after the cook.

Ok I’ll preface by saying I’ve never grilled a banana, but I love grilling and a banana sounds delicious and fun. For starters I’d probably wait for the coals to cool down a bit. I’d hope to start with a not overly ripe banana. I’d think in the ripe and maybe even slightly unripe/ firm banana. The wire grate you have looks very thin and it would easily tear the golden brown skin, so I’d get rid of that and put the banana directly on the round grates you have there. Then I’d probably lather the banana in some room temp or melted butter (any fat).
The last key is to flip when ready. Idk how to explain that but too early and it sticks, too late, and it’s melted into the grate. I think the experiment is finding the right temp as well.
Starting with a clean grate is also important

  11. Just like anything else, don’t move it around. When it gets hot enough, it’ll release.

Use a lil oil on the side that gets grilled.

I personally use those Reynolds aluminum trays with the little slits in them for grilling plantains and other soft meat veggies and fruits. I haven’t seen them in the store in a while so I’m not even sure if they still sell them, but I bought a bunch at Sam’s and I just hand wash them instead of throwing them away. They allow good smoke and char for me but your mileage may vary…..

  14. Can you even grill a banana? Maybe lower the heat., and keep an eye on it. I imagine they would lose integrity pretty quickly.

I used to work with these Mexican girlies and they would grill bananas for breakfast with peel on! Twas delicious.

Get a steak and a banana, then toss the banana in the garbage and grill the steak.

Never done it, but if I were to guess I’d say slice thicker and less ripe. Maybe a little cinnamon and sugar sprikled on them with a light layer of unsalted butter brushed on.

I do this regularly. When you have finished cooking when coals are lower temp or turn gas down lol just place the banana on the grill in its skin don’t peel it off. Once the skin turns black the banana is squishy and hot. Just pop it out of the skin and there you go! Lovely with some ice cream

  19. Classic-Suspect3661

wait, people grill bananas without peel?

  20. spider_X_1

You keep the peel on. Or you use plantain, they don’t stick when grilled.

cut banana in half length wise, grill in skin.

  22. randomname10131013

They have those grill mats that you just put on top of the grate

  23. Sensitive-Fruit7447

Use plantains instead, they’re a lot harder than bananas and won’t turn into mush
