I got overzealous this year and started maybe 80 seed pods, with some having double germination. Do most of you just give away your extra plants? Or do I need to be more disciplined in how many I start?

Sell them, then put the money back into my seeds, soil and pots

I’ll sell, giveaway both to and through friends, worst case, I’ve culled my weakest and least-vigorous “extra” seedlings.

I put them out on the front porch and post that there’s free plants on my local gardening FB page. It’s kind of fun seeing hot peppers all over town in random gardens knowing that I likely started them from seed.

I always plant more that one seed per pot than trim off the undesired one later.
Unneeded plants I take to work and set them in the break room with a free sign and they are fine by the end of the day.

Give to friends, colleagues, strangers and let them grow it for you, i mean themselves 😜

I participate in two different plant swaps in my area. Their meeting dates are a couple weeks apart in the spring which is nice. I can take some to the first one and go home with even more starts. Then I plant what I have space for and can take the leftovers to the second swap where I will inevitably find even more varieties that I must grow but have no room for.

I give most all but one of my spares away, and put one backup plant in a pot and keep it for another month or two just in case something happens ti the one I transplant into my raised beds.

Give away to family. Or give away/swap to people you meet in gardening clubs.
I don’t like to sell plants or veggies. I get enjoyment in giving away stuff.
The_Tea_Taster
Give them to me (if only I had the room)

Give them to friends or neighbors spread the love

I had maybe 20 chilli plants last year (my first year) and Got hooked in growing them and eating them.. ive been buying pepper seeds since then whenever i saw one which looked interesting.. i planted 280 chilli seeds last week and have tomatoes and other stuff aswell.. basicly wife thinks im a idiot and im just excited looking at the soil every half hour expecting something happened lol

I label them and set up a table at the end of my driveway with a “FREE PLANTS” sign. Most are gone within a day. Funny enough, hot peppers take like 2-3 days to go, because I live in Maine and these people have an aversion to spicy (or a preference for non-spicy).
