This hinge is awesome and is far better than the original “lid holder”. However, it’s still challenging to lift using the handle in the center of the lid. You basically get a face full of smoke every time. Has anyone installed a 2nd handle in the front for superior ergonomics? Thinking about doing that.

Nope. Lid holder works great for me very easy to use

I love mine. Installed on my 18” kettle. Would be a must have for 26” for me.

I saw people add a handle to the front edge of the lid to lift it up and close it. Seems was easier than the way it’s currently set up.

  4. I was surprised how much heavier the 26” lid is compared to the 22”. I’m not a fan of the lid holder but it’s definitely necessary compared to a regular that I think works perfectly well on a 22” given the size differences.

I think a quality hinge would be the best option, although drilling into the grill makes me nervous (I know people do it all the time without an issue)

  5. If you look at the handle layout for the Ranch Kettle lid, there’s a handle on the front helping you lift and stow it. You may like that layout.

  6. Thanks for posting a picture. Thought about doing that to my 26. I’ve always just used a glove to lift mine (for the hand lifting up the front part under the lid) and carefully put the lid onto the lid bale holder.
