Hobby baker here. I mostly do sugar cookies and the very occasional cake. Obviously I know I can have my own business, but the involves too much work for what my AuDHD brain can handle. I’ve only ever baked for friends/family. Are there any other options where I can utilize my skills other than just applying at a bakery? I want to be able to decorate as a steady form of income if that’s even possible for someone with no formal training.

Just post your skills on Facebook marketplace, people will for sure hire you for birthdays etc.

You can make money easily with your skill! Your works are incredible 👍🏼

Just sell tutorials online. You’ll never have to manage a custom order, and you’ll only have to set it up once! No appointments needed. Check out the Baking for Business insta for ideas on getting started.

Start making a portfolio and send the photos to baking and cooking magazines. You have a real talent. They might be able to use you.

These are incredible! You could sell as a cottage bakery and just take orders when you can. You control how much you do and make 🙂

Gorgeous!! I’d sell if I had your skills!

I don’t know how to help you, but your skills are amazing!

I have heard of women’s shelters and other types of institutions that house at-risk women that invite people to come in and do demonstrations in life skills, including cooking classes. Maybe you could teach cookie baking and decorating there. There may be libraries in your area that would be interested in you hosting a cookie decorating class. Senior centers and nursing homes may also bring you into host a class. You would probably be doing these things for free, or with minimal compensation, but since you don’t want to start a business, maybe you would enjoy it.

For special events: births, weddings, anniversary, engagements. You could control the number of cookies ordered by taking no more orders once you hit the limit per week. Limited things are valued 🙂 good luck, they’re lovely

These are insane. I cannot even comprehend your talent. I agree with the two comments about either 1) doing tutorials and selling and 2) exploring sharing with fancy baking magazines or similar.

Seriously, mind-blowing creativity and execution. Envious!

Maybe look up farmers markets in your area and sign up to have a booth. That way you have a business on your own schedule instead of doing special orders and you get to pick your weekly design. That might be the easiest least stressful way to begin to make money.

first off, you are very talented. i think you’d probably have a difficult time working in a bakery actually because most are about churning out product instead of creating these bespoke (and surely fairly time-consuming!) mini-masterpieces. but you might be surprised how much people and businesses are willing to pay for custom cookies

There is a volunteer organization that makes special birthday cakes for kids in foster care. I read about it recently and I’m sure someone in this sub will remember their name. It wouldn’t be a gig to fill your pockets, but it would fill your heart!

These are some of the most beautifully decorated cookies I’ve ever seen! Maybe you could take orders? That way you could decide how many orders/clients you want to take on? Or you could livestream cookie decoration, do tutorials, or make YT videos! I’d definitely watch/subscribe ☺️

Make sure you watermark your photos so douchebags can’t easily steal your images.

Make youtube videos where you decorate cookies. You don’t even have to talk if you don’t want to (just watermark them with your @ if you don’t) and people would love to watch. You can sell at community bake sales, craft fairs and farmers markets. You’d sell out without having the pressure of making custom stuff.

Your title is a bit scary- reminds me of Liam Neeson in Taken.

If you are looking for me to open a bakery, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long period in this hobby. Skills that make me a nightmare for waistlines like yours. If you let the idea of a bakery go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you.

But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will feed you.

Fabulous. Just fabulous. WOW. Doing short reels on Timelapse on social media and get sponsors that way.

Honestly, if you want steady income, applying at a bakery is going to be your best bet. With your skill, you don’t exactly need proper training. You can just take pictures of your creations so you can have a portfolio to show. You could even bring in something you baked to show them. And if you work at a bakery rather than owning one, you don’t have to worry about everything that the business owner does. You do your job, then go home.

Having your own business is a lot of work. So even trying to do an online business may not be a good idea if you think it’ll be too much.

My wife pays insane amounts of money for cookies like this on special occasions: weddings, birthdays, etc. Your work is excellent and I think you could do well. Trick is, you have to deliver on what the customer wants. Take some commissions and see if both you and your customers are pleased!

  23. Rogue_Rea

I have no advice but you are extremely talented. Those are all perfection. I love the starry night cake. Amazing. Keep it up

I don’t have an answer for you but omg, these are beautiful, more than some professional work. For the 2nd ones with the deers, did you freehand it or use a stencil? I mostly do cakes, never tried cookie icing so these look amazing.
