cajun by blood but lost my pawpaws and mawmaws and my daddy all very young so i didn't have anyone to teach me gumbo even tho it's my fav food i'm stuck only eating it at my in laws or at restaurants. finally decided to start changing that in baby steps, this one i made tonight is chicken & sausage and i cheated and used a concentrated roux base from a jar i just know my daddy rolling in his grave but it's delicious:))) first attempt success!!! by the time i'm thru this jar of roux i want to attempt my own then invest in a big stockpot and a several pounds of seafood!!!

    I’d grab a bowl for sure. For what its worth, the Louisiana Fish Fry brand gumbo base is pretty decent, so is the yellow box “jambalaya girl” brand. I don’t have the skill or patience to make a roux and those gumbo base in a bag are just easy af.
