Largest gingerbread village drone display breaks world record

Millions tuned in online to see a Christmas gingerbread village drone display featuring nearly 5,000 drones that broke a Guinness World Record.

A free Christmas Day dinner for people who may be alone on the holiday will be offered on Dec. 25 at the First Presbyterian Church of Corning.

Pastor Jeffrey Ugoretz said the popular event, which has been held for more than 50 years, will be at noon Christmas Day in the church’s Fellowship Hall, at 1 E. First St., Corning.

Ernie Danforth, chair of the First Presbyterian Dinner Committee, said there will be a short Christmas sing-along at 11:30 a.m. and dinner will be served at noon.

“If people want to come to the church and sing some Christmas carols, they can,” Ugoretz said. “The free dinner is offered as a gift to people in the community to bring fellowship and celebration to those who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day.”

Ugoretz said the event, which is run by about 40 volunteers, is something that many people look forward to and remember the experience.

“We ask people to call 607-937-5419 to make reservations,” Ugoretz said. “We would like them to call the church by Dec. 19 (if possible) and let us know they’re coming.”

Call 607-937-5419 to check availability after Dec. 19.

All are invited to the Christmas Dinner

Ugoretz said the main Christmas Day course will feature ham, potatoes, vegetables, and all the fixings and dessert.

“In the past years we have served about 100 people,” Ugoretz said. “So, we are hoping for that type of number, or even more.”
