Yea – this is beautiful and clearly a lot of time and talent went into to it

For a home/cottage baker, this seems high for this cake. The ingredients and components sound good. The decoration is still very rough. $95

Icing seems like it wasn’t smooth. Could use a little more practice. That’s just my opinion. $85.

For a $120 priced 9” heart, I’d polish up the piping skills a bit. But for the ingredients and flavors, that’s definitely worth considering. For that price point, I would expect a nicer cake board.

Pretty and sounds tasty but no way. $85 would be custom luxury job for a 9” cake

I wouldn’t be happy if I paid 120 for that piping. It could be neater but it’s gorgeous.

This cake is a good one. But, as a person who buys several customized personalized cakes a year. Your price is too high. Your piping and roses aren’t $120 quality. $50 to $70 maybe. Keep practicing, your work is good. But you are not there quite yet
Princessadellabanana
Yes it’s beautiful

Just one layer? I would definitely not pay $120.

The answers are all over the place, but honestly, it really depends on where you are. In my area, that would be about right given the ingredients (I live in a large metro area, but the cost of living is fairly low). There *are* areas where $120 might be high, and still others where it would be quite low.
I wouldn’t call this “rough” like some are saying, but I would call it “busy.” If that’s what the customer asked for, then I think it’s fine, although I think you could charge slightly more if you polished the piping a bit.
lilbios
Honestly I would pay maybe $60
Crazee108
It doesn’t look very polished/refined to me I wouldn’t pay $120 for this sorry.

I guess it depends on size? It’s gorgeous, but not the neatest piping. If it was 12-16″, then $100-120 seems right. For 8″, I think maybe $75?
It also depends on where you live. I’d pay $75 for that in LA, but the cost of ingredients is also pretty high. If you’re in like, idk, Oklahoma, maybe $65-70?
omnomdumpling
these comments are crazy i would pay $120 for this in a heartbeat. i think your piping looks lovely! i live in a city tho and payed similar for a cake like this

lol why is everyone saying it’s fair getting downvoted?

I wouldn’t pay that much for the cake. Especially where I live. That is part of the reason I’m learning how to bake and decorate myself. Get whatever is right for the area. It looks good.

The style yes, the execution no.

How much did ingredients cost? And how much time did you spend making it? Where I live $120 is pretty pricey, but I don’t know what ingredient costs are where you live and that definitely makes a difference. And depending on how long you spent on it you do want to make sure you’re paying yourself well. Where I live though, I don’t think that would go above $80
Educational_Duck_201
I think so, or at least 100. Baker needs to work on her writing, too wonky. Other than that it’s a beautiful cake with a lot of work into it.

The pics aren’t the issue. I wouldn’t pay $120 for this cake because the decorating quality isn’t there. It sounds absolutely delicious, but the design is too much. The features are all crammed together both on top and on the sides. For future cakes, I’d use only one border along the top edge instead of three (although I do love the colors you chose). There’s barely enough room for the writing on the top; heart- shaped cakes already lack enough writing room as it is. There are lots of air bubbles in your buttercream, which is a result of overbeating or beating at too high a speed. The roses are cracked at the edges, and when you have roses, they have to be perfect, so I’d practice those with wetter icing. It took me forever to get the right icing consistency for flowers because I was always more afraid they would puddle, and more often than not I too ended up with cracked edges. I would also suggest adding leaves to the roses, as it helps situate them better onto the cake so they look incorporated into it. You’ve got some great piping skills in the borders and the shells on the sides, and your color design is clearly there. I think you’re not far away from making $120 cakes.

Where I live it would be in the higher side, but there’s a huge difference between a made from scratch cake from a bakery and a deli bakery at Walmart in terms of ingredients and things.
You have to factor that in as well.
You need to also remember, the cost of ingredients.
Cake this size is at minimum 6 eggs, a carton of eggs is $7-$11 depending where you live.
