My husband grew up pretty poor. Often living off commodities and family's homes for meals. This is one of the comfort foods he grew up on. He calls it "slop." It's ground hamburger meat, chopped green chilies, cream of mushroom soup, and cream of chicken soup. You obviously cook the hamburger meat, mix in the chilies and then add the soups. You then let it simmer and once all "married" together, you eat it with a flour tortilla. He said his dad said it was very similar to "shit on a shingle."
It's honestly not that bad.

Yeah no it doesn’t appetizing, but it sounds good. Maybe add some onions when baking the meat

Honestly… sounds pretty good. Sprinkle some cilantro garnish on that and it’ll look prettier.

I would add some elbow or egg noodles to it and be happy

Doesn’t sound horrible, aside from the color. I’d dip doritos into it.

I have never heard of dysenteric diarrhea as comfort food but…..learn something new everyday!

    It’s basically creamed, chipped beef!

The fact I could not guess most of the ingredients says a lot. Could be edible to me, if it’s not too salty.

  8. Two cans of soup seems excessive but I used to make stuff like this all the time in college. Ground hamburger or diced chicken tenders with mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup over rice was a staple.

We make somthing similar but mainly we dont add cream of chicken and we cook it with minced mushrooms and then cook it with either Noodles or Rice. We call it Ground MeatMess

It’s basically the beef stroganoff hamburger helper if you skipped the tortilla and added pasta instead. My parents definitely served lots of struggle meals consisting of hamburger (or tuna) and canned cream of crap growing up, so I could see why this is comforting to him.

We made a version of this growing up and we called it SOS. (navy thing I believe?) anyway, it was ground beef, french onion soup mix, cream of mushroom, and some seasonings served over a piece of plain white bread. Palatable and filling, but definitely looks like when your dog pukes up its half digested kibble.

Full disclosure, came here to rail on it. Read description, probably gonna make it in a minute. I’m conflicted. Thanks, I think

I would add veggies and eat this over egg noodles or rice. Or use it as the base for tater tot casserole.

If you want a different carb try sliced potatoes in it. My family was old school poor (waited in line for cheese and evaporated milk poor). We made this a lot. Also we added a can of corn to it also ha ha ha

What did it look like before he ate it?

  17. Or over rice. It may not seem appeasing but hell, I would smash that.

My cousin used to to make something similar but with more canned vegetables. She called it 1000lb casserole.

Isn’t this basically a tater tot casserole without the tots?

I do something sorta similar. Ground beef mixed with mashed potatoes and a can of creamed corn. Mixed together and baked in a casserole dish. It’s one of my favorite comfort meals.

I thought it was gravy for biscuits and gravy. Switch out the beef for ground sausage and add a biscuit

Looks a lot like the “beef stroganoff” my mom used to make from a ” recipe” on the back of some can or box
