I braved the cold for a very early double-feature dinner at Tre Dita and Miru.

The space at Tre Dita was spectacular, with luxurious interior design and a gorgeous view of the Chicago River and skyline. Unfortunately, I felt like I was mostly paying for that ambiance. While the food was good, I found it overpriced and wasn't satisfied with the portion sizes. I would've liked to try a few more dishes, but my bill was painful enough with just an appetizer, pasta, and cocktail. It's certainly worth a visit if you want to commemorate a special occasion or enjoy beautiful restaurants, but I can't see myself coming back on a regular basis.

None of the desserts at Tre Dita really caught my eye and I was still kind of hungry, so I wandered upstairs to Miru. Their chocolate silk tart is one of my favorite desserts in the city – a balanced blend of dark chocolate ganache, matcha ice cream, and salted caramel. It didn't disappoint. Paired with some green tea and an even better view, it was a great end to the night.

1 – Gamberi in salsa verde from Tre Dita. The prawns were cooked well – firm yet juicy, with a slight char that gave the dish a nice crunch. I enjoyed the smoothness of the salsa verde but would’ve liked a touch more acidity to brighten the dish.

2 – Pici cacio e pepe from Tre Dita. The pasta was thicker than I typically prefer, but had a lovely, tender texture. The sauce was adequately seasoned but unremarkable. The portion felt stingy for the price ($28).
