Same thing happened to me and still use it just fine. I can remember there being an almost toasty popcorn smell before I realised I was pre heating the Dutch oven with the banneton inside 😂

Oh Boy, I loved these “opportunities.” When my husband would inadvertently ruin something of mine in the laundry, for instance, I’d secretly smile because I was going to get a present 🤭. So, go ahead and make a list of all the things you’ve been wanting, and make sure he sees it.

Add a cotton liner and save it from the grave!

It has an extra campfire smell to it. But gonna use it for the next loaf and see if it transfers that smell to the taste of the bread!
Extra rustic!

No way!! Literally happened to me last week! My first banneton, almost two years old. 🥹 RIP buddy.
New to sourdough, so please forgive my ignorance. Why would you put a banneton in the oven?

Reminds me of when my kids hid legos inside our air fryer and I preheated it to 450. I smelled something burning but just attributed it to the air fryer being new. I opened up the basket and they were super melted. My husband said they were Salvador Dali legos lol.

i still use my toasted banneton just fine btw.
Keep using it and tell people it’s mahogany
Oh noes! Is it unusable now? RIP banneton
It’s got that high heat patina!
Still looks perfectly usable, you just need to brush out any burnt flour if it had any flour residue in it.
Totally fine to use
Why does it look crunchy
Looks like chocolate
Looks well seasoned to me. Load a loaf and send it.
For a moment I thought it was a case of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sourdough/s/y8jkcgdgv9
