Earlier in the week I marked a milestone; 43 years since first coming to Japan. Where did all of the decades go? And Haru-chan and I celebrated her second birthday! 🐶I will also take you grocery shopping with me. I made a delicious Greek lentil & spinach soup topped with feta cheese.

  1. Congratulations and happy birthday.
The prices were high to me. You bought a lot of veggies and 2 different meats. I think with rice and veggies, 50 bucks, meat 30.
I said a while back that you were in zone 4, and you said temps like Georgia. You were right. That's about zone 8, 8b.
    That spinach looks soooo good.
    Have an awesome day

  2. Today is my birthday too❤😊.. and all the planets are aligned.
January is a special month for us three.. congratulations 🎉 🎉 🎉 on your 43rd year in Japan, Happy 2nd Birthday to Lil miss HaruChan😂

  3. Happy Japaniversary and Happy Haru Day!🎉 You got quite the grocery haul. I think it's fairly cheap, especially for so much fresh and good looking produce! I'm surprised the critters didn't get your other Napa also. They must have thought it was a decoy.😅Robert, you just don't know how much I long for a seat right next to your stove!😂

  4. Happy Birthday Haru! I think $137 is quite expensive. Our fruit and meat is quite expensive here in Texas but I can still buy a whole basket of food, etc for about $200-$250 every 2 weeks. God bless and Happy milestone!!

  5. Morning Robert, and Happy belated birthday to Haru! Wow on the 43 years! Wish I never left. It was because my mom fell ill, but I still remember when I made that decision. Had to switch off my feelings for the few weeks until the planes wheels left the tarmac!

As to your groceries, I think is cheap! I don't shop like that anymore since I have to carry things on the bike. Went to get bacon a couple of weeks ago, didn't buy it. Over $12 a pack! Just scrolled back on a text conversation with a friend and I had a couple of months ago. Wish I could send the picture, but a Christmas ham was $172.80! Tomatoes are in the area on $5 each! So if I returned to Japan, I could still buy an Akiya and still afford to live without having to work every day! Oh and I haven't gone fishing yet! Bought bait, have extra hooks and weights, but something is always preventing me!

  6. I am hereby awarding the blue ribbon for this episode! First place! To me, this was one of your best chapters so far… a little bit of everything and educational as well. I always like learning about other cultures, practices and similarities to our own. With regards to the grocery shopping, it would have been more helpful to have broken out the cost of each item – that way I could more accurately compare prices between your bounty and what it might cost me/us for similar items. The total price could be skewed by something that is way more expensive in Japan vs. our local grocery stores. I do enjoy shopping, much to my better half's delight! Happy belated Birthday to Ms. Haru! I just love the way she's so gregarious with others and I do so enjoy the way she likes to play with you with your feet as you growl at each other… the cutest thing! Thanks for the great episode, Robert and Haru – you made my day! Happy 43 years in Japan!

  7. Do a video telling us about your life, please. I'd love to hear your story. Have you ever been married? Do you have children? What caused you to make Japan your home? Do you miss the U.S.? Do you miss your family in the U.S.? Share; I bet your story is very interesting.

  8. Happy Anniversary Robert & Happy Birthday to Haru. I think the amount for groceries was about normal. Food is so expensive. The soup looks good as well as those cookies… yummmm!!! Hope you have a great Saturday.

  9. Congratulations! You always make great vlogs. Outstanding stories and cinematography… and especially the announcing and descriptions.

  10. Hey Bobby. A big Philly shout out and Congratulations buddy 43 years living your dream 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Happy birthday Haru !!! You gotta buy Haru a eagles shirt 😄. Go Eagles 🦅 👍🏽

  11. Happy birthday Haru. Wow Robert 43 years. That's amazing. Enjoyed another great video. Enjoyed learning about another recipe. Have a fantastic day my friend 😊

  12. Nice!!! Lovely video Mr robert! The grocery bill is cheap in comparison to what i would have to pay for those items …i would have to look for about $220 usd
You should remember to set lots of green onions in your garden , your climate green should grow all year round.
I am happy you have such great memories through out your life in japan..

  13. Happy Birthday Haru, wow 2 yrs! It's hard for me to believe it's been that long since I've watched your Utube channel, even before Haru came.

Happy Anniversary too, I think your even more handsome than you were 43yrs ago. 65 yrs soon, 😊 I too get surprised on my senior citizen status, still 😂

  14. Happy anniversary to you and Happy Birthday 🎂 to Haru.
The groceries seem a little more expensive than here in NY, but grocery prices have been steadily rising everywhere.
I actually just made some lentil soup too. I love soup and stew in cold weather. I'm going to try and make chicken stew this coming week.
Have a great and joyful weekend 😊

  15. Hello Robert! Congratulations on living 43 years in Japan! Congrats also to Haru on her birthday. Thanks for taking us with you on your grocery shopping. That was fun and informative. Your Greek lentil & spinach soup looked like a winner! Those ingredients would blend well together, I think, into a delicious tasty dish. You sure know how to cook delicious food. It was nice to see your twin sister, Cassandra, doing well in her art expressions. The artistic touch seems to run in your family. Very nice! Have a great rest of your weekend! Cheers!

  16. Hi Robert & Haru! Happy Birthday & Congratulations to 43 years in Japan! Thanks for bringing us along while you were shopping. The groceries appear expensive but the good thing is everything looked fresh so its worth it…. Thanks for sharing the spinach recipe… by the way… you have super cool sunglasses! Peace & Light Pamela

  17. Hi Robert and Haru! Happy Birthday and happy anniversary. I enjoyed the grocery shopping. I think the cost is the same as I would pay. I am in NC. You bought a lot of food and veg so I do NOT think it was too expensive. I was thinking today that next week is the last week of January. That means we will be working on our starters soon!! Woohoo. I had good luck with broccoli and cauliflower last year so I'm going to start some and plant it around the first of March. I've never planted these in early spring. Anyway, have a great week. Look forward to the next video.

  18. Happy Birthday to Haru! I’ve lived in Korea for 13 years. Seems we both love living in Asia. Meat is much cheaper in Japan! Thanks for sharing your sister’s talent.

  19. Good early morning from a chilly Minnesota! 3 degrees Fahrenheit here. Congratulations on 43 years in Japan. It does look like a beautiful place to live. Happy birthday Haru! It doesn't seem like 2 years already.

  20. I really enjoyed your channel and thank you so much for uploading great episodes! I used to live in Canada for 10 years and now came back to Japan and I totally understand how hard it is to live in different country. Much much respect to you!!

  21. Wow! 43 years! That's an entire lifetime. Very impressive. I'd love to hear you reflect on the years and decades at length at some point. I bet you've got all sorts of stories to tell. And last, but certainly not least, Happy Birthday, Haru!!!

  22. Lentil soup that's really good. I think I'll try it thanks for the link. Happy birthday to Haru. Happy anniversary to you. 😊

  23. Congratulations on such an impressive milestone. This year, I'm celebrating 10 years of living in Germany and thought that was impressive… Where does the time go? And also Haru is two! Wow!
