It’s been said many times before and will be said many times again: Thanksgiving side dishes are far superior to the main course.
But if there’s one that makes the mouths of people in Pennsylvania water more than the others, it’s stuffing.
According to Campbell’s annual “State of the Sides” report, Pennsylvania goes with the grain in its love for stuffing as a side dish, as the vast majority of states prefer it to mashed potatoes on the holiday.
In fact, 56 percent of Americans much rather prefer to eat side dishes over the star of the show, turkey. Another 38 percent admit they would be satisfied enough filling their plate with just side dishes, thank you very much.
The report also found that the Northeast — Pennsylvania included — tends to love “Sweet, Savory Seafood and Maple Syrup” flavors in their Thanksgiving meal.
However, preferred taste appears to be generational: The study notes how 45 percent of Gen Zers would rather have mac and cheese as a side dish. About 59 percent of Baby Boomers, however, like to stick with stuffing while another 32 percent of them go for the mashed potatoes.
The third most beloved side dish was sweet potatoes. Green bean casserole — which “graces 62% of Thanksgiving tables in the Midwest” — followed next in fourth, then mac and cheese in fifth.
Campbell’s even partnered with CAMP to create special limited edition candles that house these delicious scents called “The Scents of Sides Season.” The candles include “Green Bean Casserole” and “Apple, Fennel & Herb Stuffing.”
These candles will be available on CAMP for $30 starting Nov. 18.
