*until i finally get the chance to visit japan lol.

i worked at a sushi restaurant for 5.5 years to help put me through school and i just lost it with 2 days notice :/ not looking forward to temporary unemployment but more importantly, not looking forward to braving the real world without free sushi 5 days a week, sigh. here are some meals from over the years- unfortunately itโ€™s adjusted my palette and i surely wonโ€™t be able to afford the quality that i was eating before for the time being, not to mention free sushi is the best tasting sushi. wish me luck โ˜น๏ธ

looking at some of this mess, the just mess of it, every possible surface covered with for no apparent reason… it’s just not good

Something about a free temaki just feels so luxurious to me. I’m sorry for your loss.

I truly believe that every setback is gearing you for an epic comeback.

I did 12 years at a sushi bar. I thought the same when I left. Youโ€™ll find a spot because your cravings will get the better of you. And there are high quality, reasonably affordable places out there, you just gotta find em.

i feel you. couple years ago my husband also worked at a sushi restaurant and would bring free sushi home. no more free sushi was the worst part of him losing that job ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I can relate, I also worked at a sushi restaurant for years and was good friends with the chefs. I ate like a king. Bluefin and salmon belly all day. Now youโ€™ll have to accept the reality that it was the past. Paying for it is not the same :(. Itโ€™s more just a treat now but I miss eating it almost everyday. No more negitoro handrolls mid shift. Hard to appreciate something like this fully until it is taken away. You will survive. I feel for you

I have been traveling for work for past 20 or so years on expense account. I have ate tremendous amounts of free sushi/sashimi on expense account. For one two year project every tuesday the client project sponsor and I would eat at the same japanese place. They have a roll named after me and I feel like I funded the ownerโ€™s kid college fund. Client loved when my steak and potato boss flew in since she loved to force them to eat sushi. Basically sit at counter and the chef/owner just served us stuff. Get a non itemized bill with just a number at the end. Almost every project find a decent place and became a regular.

Every time I return from japan I cant bring myself to eat anything japanese for a few months. The sadness and outrageous price difference

  11. Can you use your experience there to get a job at another sushi joint?
