Hi all! I ordered this dish on a visit to Tokyo back in 2018 and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. I have no idea what it’s called.

  1. Okonomiyaki with a lot of bonito flakes on top?

  2. It’s Okonomiyaki! There’s a few prefectures in Japan that’s famous for it. One of it being Osaka. There’s a quite a few places in Dotonbori selling delicious Okonomiyaki. Here’s a spot in Dotonbori that has delicious Okonomiyaki along with some other street food if you’re interested or visiting 😋

Specifically Hiroshima Okonomiyaki since it is layered and appears to have noodles.

Kokonomiyaki. My favorite Japanese dish. I cook it every Friday

We’ve got a small chain of restaurants here in Los Angeles that sells okonomiyaki, and the first time that I tried it, it instantly became my new favorite comfort food. So good.

This is Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki. It’s less common abroad than the more typical Kansai-style Okonomiyaki. If you find okonomiyaki in a typical restaurant in North America, you’ll probably end up with something slightly different, but capturing the same flavours.
