I was cooking last night and I mistakenly left my vents open while and I came out and my Acorn was 600-700 degrees. I opened it up and there was white soot all over the grill grate. From my understanding, this essentially just "cooked" all of the residue build up that was in the grill and reduced it to soot. However, when I cooled it and started to brush it, the grate looked rusty as hell as shown here. Will a wire brush do the trick in removing it? Why did the high heat cause this in the first place?
Any feedback is appreciated

Just season with cooking oil!
I do this to mine every year to burn and clean it. Just a wire brush on the grill grate to get rid of any rust and then season it again. No harm done.
Akorn’s have bare cast iron grates. Just brush em and spray them down with oil. Bring it up to ~400 and they’ll be pretty again. Do it a couple of times to get a thicker layer of seasoning on it. Any time you get hot enough to burn the seasoning off it’ll do that again though. I’ve got an Akorn Jr and that method makes my grate look perfect again.
Light fire. Wire brush. Spray w oil. Wait 15 min. Repeat oil spray and waiting 4-5 times.
Re-seasoned grate.
Mine does this all the time too, I just reseasoned and it’ll be good to go.
This will continue to happen, and it’s fine. Just spray it with some oil next time you warm it up.
When you finish cooking next time if you’ll scrape the grates and spray some oil on while it’s cooling down it’ll be ready to use next time you need it
You’ve super heated the iron, my dude. You expect some reaction to this, yes? You’re lucky you didn’t burn out the bottom ash tray seal or warp the paint super heating it like that. Akorn’s get HOT HOT.
I have one, does this all the time. Harbor freight and get the wire bits for your cordless drill. It takes 2 minutes to knock off. Heat up and add oil. I don’t even fight it anymore. Love my Akorn but I have learned to live with this.
