Would raw meatballs be ok to cook in a crockpot?
If so, high or low? And how many hours?

I think if you sear them in a pan first, get them some of the way cooked, then yes.

I only make my meatballs in the crock pot. I cook them for 7 hours on low in tomato sauce.

3-4 hours on high should be about right. They will hold together better if you sear them a bit first but it isn’t strictly necessary.

They should be fine, similar to how some people cook raw meatballs in a simmering pot of sauce for a long time.

However, for better taste and texture, I would recommend searing them in a pan with a bit of oil first to crisp the outaide a touch, then put them in the crock pot to cook the rest of the time.

Actually, now that I think about it, I might do this the next time I make sauce and meatballs for spaghetti as a “lazy sunday” way of simmering for a long time.

Meatballs aren’t really a thing in Italy so those would be American style meatballs.

The ones that might exist in Italy are smaller. And most likely not as those.

Just remember they are just Italian sausage so they don’t have the texture of ground beef meatballs, other than that sear them then add in your crockpot

These meatballs are actually very good, I’ve never slow cooked them usually I smash them a bit to create surface area, sear them off and then drop them into a pot of simmering pasta sauce. I’ll usually let them sit for about an hour at most. Generally if I do this method it’s for meatball subs. I don’t think meatballs really benefit from a slow cook or braise but, hey.. prove me wrong
