Do you think Napa wines will be cheaper? They can’t import wines to Canada because of the tariff imposed by Canada as a retaliatory response from Trump imposed tariffs. If Napa wines gets cheaper, it’s time to stock up

A lot of news outlets are really invested in making alcohol tariffs seem like the sky is falling, but as a consumer or an average winery you probably wouldn’t notice a difference in the market.
Canada is listed as 10% of the export market, which means it only consumes around 1% of US wine production. Even if all that went away tomorrow (and a 25% tariff probably isn’t going to end all US wine sales to Canada), dry January probably does more to depress wine prices than any tariff action.
Not really, Napa cult + classic cabs still get more expensive YoY. Winery would rather make less wine than cut their price. 2023 was a such great vintage with quantity and quality that vintners struggled to sell grapes in 2024. Except for bulk wine, I think good wineries will hold a decent amount of 2023 for their library collection. You can expect better juice but not better price the next few years.
Canada’s *always* been a regulatory headache/not worth it to export wine to. It’s truly such a nothing burger in my neck of the woods.
There are some sizable players in the central coast that export to Canada and it will hurt them without a doubt, particularly at a time where is excess level of bulk wine in all premium California regions
Just left wingers trying to make this into armageddon
A lot of wineries get their glass from China. That cost is going up.
Canada agreed to pause its tariffs on U.S. goods for 30 days in response to a deal with President Trump, which included commitments to enhance border security and curb drug trafficking. This agreement was reached after last-minute negotiations between the leaders of both countries.
I doubt it – the cost of supplies and equipment used will also rise with tariffs.
Tariffs are off for now.
Should they actually be enabled, oh yeah, that’ll hurt.
Except our tariffs on glass are going up.
I think you’ll be able to get wines from the wineries that go out of business for relatively cheap.
