Got this grill for free. It was on worse condition than I had originally anticipated. Already cleaned it, and ordered some new burners for 34$ (not OEM) since I don’t think the grill will last for more than 2-3 years due to the rust. Anything I can do kind of repair the undercarriage? I was thinking of putting a metal plate or metal stripes? Thanks in advance.

You can get 10 years out of that. That rust underneath just means you can’t store stuff in there. If you cover that and just maintain it, it should be good for quite some time. It’s not in that bad of shape for free.

For free? That’s a prize. Everything looks to be in fair to good condition except the bottom panel.

That bottom panel is a simple fix. A thin gauge sheet of coated aluminum or stainless steel laid on top solves that problem. Heck, even a cookie sheet laid over top would work.

One question though, and it’s kind of important and may be why the bottom looks like that to begin with:

    Where’s the drip pan?

Have you check with Weber to see if they have a bottom panel? Other than that I would sand, prime and paint what I could.

Weber might even still carry an OEM floor for it. Pricey, but significantly less expensive than a new(er) Weber (if the rest of your Spirit is indecent shape). Check out [The Virtual Weber Bulletin Board](http://www.tvwbb.com) to get some opinions and tips on how best to approach this project.
