I attended Forks and Corks, a high end wine festival in Sarasota, a few weeks ago and had the chance to try several 2016 Grand Crus. Bernand Magrez’s Chateau Pape Clement Grand Cru Classé de Graves was my personal favorite. His son Philippe insisted I have two pours after he noticed my reaction (the second was a full glass). Deep color, concentrated fruit and black licorice on the nose. Very savory on the palate with a long persistent finish. Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere and Chateau Smith Havt Lafite’s 2016 Grand Crus were also outstanding. Finally, although I was done with whites, Philippe insisted I try their Clos Haut-Peyraguey 2017 Sauternes Premiere Grand Cru, which was one of the most interesting whites I’ve ever encountered. Aromas of toasted orange peel and candied pineapple with a layered flavor that seemed almost honeyed led to a long, velvety finish.

I had the pleasure of having the 1989 chateau canon la gaffeliere a couple of days ago at a Bordeaux dinner. Was the wine of the night. Forks and Corks looks like an event not to miss.[https://imgur.com/a/cKGY0kN](https://imgur.com/a/cKGY0kN)
How ready was the 2016 pape clement? I’ve got a bottle in my cellar waiting to be popped
