Hey! It looks like you posted an image!
If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

That’s the ash… Normal

What do you think happens to wood when it is burned?

This is normal in a traeger, number of cooks also matters less than number of hours cooked, so I would start there. I would expect this amount after a few all day cooks, but not from a few short cooks.
Most people recommend a cheap shop vac to go alongside a pellet smoker to keep it nice and clean

Hit it with a shop vac, if you want to get real detailed use a plastic card and scrape it. It won’t damage the paint.

That looks like a pretty big clinker. Were you running it at high?

About every 20 hours of cook time you would want to vacuum out the ash. Helps prevent fires.

3 brisket cooks? Lol jk. I’ve seen somewhere to clean it every time after 20 hours of cooking time

I was told they are called “clinkers”. My 885 got the same hard residue chunks in the fire pot and I posted a similar pic. I stopped using the Traeger brand pellets and switched to Kirkland and haven’t had any more of them.

This happens to me when I use Bears pellets. After every cook I’d have a stone like mold in the burn pot. Switched and haven’t had that happen.
