Rolled the dice on the head scratching, mega discounted Camus Pere et Fils available through Wegmans. This was $30. The Burgundy expert at my local Wegs wine store has always steered me away but I figured I’d finally see what the deal is. I was hoping to have similar luck to u/condorkhan! The color is correct, and the nose is typical of an older Pinot with heavy notes of barnyard, and some dark cherry trying to poke through but overall it’s not very complex. The palate is pretty unremarkable – not unpleasant, but somewhat astringent, very thin, and with almost no finish. My girlfriend remarking “it tastes like water.” Would I try another bottle? Maybe. It might be a fun game to taste through these a bit hoping to strike gold for a bargain. But I’d probably be better served saving the money spent on these to buy something from a more consistent & high quality producer.

  1. Camus has never had a good reputation, though I read some comments they had gotten better in receht years.

I guess not. It’s a pity, they have exceptional terroir.

I’d be curious to know what it’s like from a much younger vintage.

Good example of how a really bad producer can squander GC terroir.

  4. I find these hold up a bit better in magnums. Always Fun to try these vineyards with these bottles but it’s not hard to find better wines from different producers village level. Can’t beat the price though!

On the plus side, you got to drink a Mazy-Chambertin

What is the brand/source of your glasses? I dig.

When Camus finally gets sold (every has a price) it’s probably going to be a legendary domaine transformation. Their terroir is legendary and a competent winemaker could turn this into a must have domaine. We can only hope…

Imagine if all Burg was comparably priced.

  9. Producer, producer, producer. Don’t care if it’s a chambertin. Follow the good producers and avoid this you shall
