Everyone was so kind and encouraging the last time I shared my Milk Bread, thank you for that.
I didn’t grow up near large Jewish communities, so I’m not super familiar with babka and have never had one before. But their twisted shape always looked so, so pretty so I wanted to try it myself! It’s kind of like a chocolate version of a cinnamon roll, the way you can peel the layers.
I mainly used the King Arthur’s recipe, but swapped the egg wash and crumble topping for a drenching in simple syrup. In addition to the shine, it also benefitted from the sweetness!
(Few recipes ever mention chilling the roll before slicing and shaping though. I feel like it makes things way easier!)

This looks incredible! So shiny and chocolatey 😍 I never chill mine before shaping but that’s a great idea since it can get messy!
Stunning, almost too pretty to cut.
I’ve never had babka, what is the texture like? Is cake-like?
