So, I’m sorry American friends but your president is a moron and a bully and I can’t support him or your economy until he leaves my country alone.

That said, I love California reds, especially cabs and I am looking for alternatives at the LCBO.

I typically enjoy Liberty School, Irony, Decoy, The Prisoner and Columbia Crest.

Can anyone suggest options in the $18-40 CAD range at the LCBO? I have a pretty good grasp on Australia and Argentina, looking mostly for old world. Thanks!

If you want something really rich and ripe. I’ve had very good luck in Tuscany and Chile.

How about Côtes du Rhône, gigondas, Chinon, Merlot (from anywhere..)

You might like Spanish wine from jumilla … Juan Gil silver is one of my favorites for a budget friendly wine … I am also a fan of French Côtes du Rhône ….. family Perrin reserve is a good budget friendly introduction to the region

  5. Ribera del Duero, Tuscan wines with Cabernet, Priorat, Cahors, Southern Rhone, Amarone…so many options to consider. Good luck.

Argentinean Malbec from uco valley can be a good substitute. Usually quite affordable.

  7. With the wine there’s so many options. Italian is good and very affordable.

Replace your bourbon with either an Irish whiskey or a Canadian Rye whisky. (I recently discovered Reifel last night – so good!)

Lots of great Maremma from Italy, Campo Alle Comete comes to mind, or Ca’Marcanda. Primitivo from Puglia also pleases from the right producer (Fantini and Doppio Passo are great value picks).

Tinta del Toro (Tempranillo from Toro, Spain) from producers like Matsu is also a great option offering warm climate winemaking with a body and profile that does well with US drinkers. Ribera del Duero (La rioja alta does a good label) is also a great pick.

Montes from Chile will do labels akin to the price point and quality and grapes you are looking for, and producers like Diemersfontein from South Africa offer great body and structure in their offerings while keeping “old world” sensibilities.

Trump might just help your country avoid electing a right wing fascist like we did, so you should probably be thanking us with your purchases. Also decoy is owned by private equity FYI, so your wallet already sold out.
