Michelin has delivered some good news to the UK and Ireland’s beleaguered restaurant industry, at least at the top end.

The venerable guide has inducted Moor Hall into its three star club. Chef Mark Birchall’s restaurant has an outrageously picturesque setting: A Grade ll listed house dating back to the 16th century on five acres of garden-filled land in Aughton, Lancashire. The chef’s produce-driven menu might include Isle of Mull scallops served on top of fermented grains with green tomato and caviar, and local Dorset Sika deer accompanied by a ragout of forest mushrooms with a liver whey sauce. At £235 ($291) it just became one of the world’s better three star deals; the £125 lunch is an even better one.
