Wine pours a pale amber in the glass. Intense, developing aromas of pineapple (grilled, fresh, in syrup), yellow stonefruit (ripe, cooked), lychee, smoke/camphor, marmalade, orange zest, rose, nutmeg, Earl Grey tea, toasted hazelnuts, man– this is intoxicating. The wine is dry (feels off-dry, that sneaky gewurtz), full bodied, med acid, high alcohol, intense in the mouth with a long finish. Overall, outstanding, can drink now, will develop over the next 5+ years (preference, mine).
It’s not often that I get a quality gewurztraminer, but when I do, it seems that I am always happy with the choice, and you can’t go wrong with Trimbach, I feel. Paired well with Thai food, and later, by itself. The wine really started to strut around hour 3 of being open, those tropical, tea, and hazelnut flavors and aromas are endless. Man, that finish just sails off into the horizon.
