Dented my wallet but it was so worth it. A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Striploin I reverse seared on a cast iron.

Yeah don’t see much of a sear tho, glad u enjoyed!
ItchySackError404
Is the sear in the room with us right now?
Lord_Fatalis
I would probably practice a bit on cheaper cuts to get a better sear. But in any case, you didn’t burn or overcook it and that’s the most important thing. It’s always good to treat ourselves to a experience sometimes!

Seared with a hot fart

Crushes me to see people think they’re all that walking around proud of themselves for eating a raw lukewarm steak. Might as well French kiss your dog, Ittl be practically the same.
Adorable_Economics16
That steak looks absolutely insane. Bet it melted like butter
PitifulAd7600
Ignore the assholes. Looks like a damn fine steak!

That looks absolutely stunning. A5 Miyazaki Wagyu is top-tier beef, crazy marbling, buttery texture, and an insanely rich flavor
Cayorus
Lol, fuckin murdered that thing.

Steamed in the cast iron

Hope you enjoyed it. My $.02 that nobody asked for – you could have probably used a third of that and been satisfied, I can’t imagine eating an entire ribeye of A5. It is absolutely delicious for a few bites but then becomes quickly overwhelming and almost makes me nauseous.
I also prefer cutting it into thin strips and searing it in the cast-iron to get more of the fat exposed and rendered. Gets a better sear and crispy outer texture.

Was the cast iron in the fridge?
AffectionateBet3298
That is an amazing cut of meat that you did a horrible job cooking.
Less_Geologist_4004
I’d have to eat it well done. Maybe finish with a soft bernaise.
ILSmokeItAll
Those are so hard to get a good crust on because of the amount of fat dispersion when it renders.

Like others mentioned, you effed up the crust but thankfully didn’t overcook. Practice makes perfect!

Different than your local Applebees huh?

Something we do when we’ve got wagyu is cut off some of the fat cap and throw it in the cast iron before you put the steak down.
Let the fat bits crackle and render (almost caramelize) before you get the steak going. Glad you enjoyed!
stanquevisch
Does it tastes like butterly meat? It sure looks like it.
Bowserking11
Did you cut it with that butter knife?
UltraZulwarn
ironically, steaks like A5 Wagyu can take a bit more beating (when it comes to heat) so it will still taste great even if it is slightly overcooked (vs regular steak we get from the usual grocery store), though people would call me a heretic for saying that haha.
Glad that you enjoyed it!
BaetrixReloaded
i wouldn’t worry too much about getting a seat on A5 on fear of overcooking it. temp looks perfect, hope you enjoyed
Rhythm_Killer
Have you got any pics from after you did the sear?
ultraboomkin
You’re kind of crazy to practice your first cast iron sear on an expensive wagyu…
Any_Blueberry_2453
That poor cow died for this. For THIS (I am just coping with jealousy because you actually were able to try one and I have been dying to try one for years)
Cultural_Time8854
Don’t overcomplicate with the reverse portion, it’s unnecessary. Just put it on a blazing hot pan until it’s seared and you’re done.
SonnysMunchkin
How is it. I still haven’t taken the plunge

Nice…

Did you sear it with the heat from the back of a ps4
